Gorilla question: will Jock, the elderly silverback move to the new zoo at Cribbs, or will he live out his days at Clifton with a new silverback introduced after the females & youngsters settle?

The plan has always been to move them all as a family and BZP haven’t advertised anything different at the moment.

That’s good. I saw a social media post today from the zoo referencing the groups move and I believe it said, something along the lines of ‘…., Kera and her group….’ and the wording just made me consider the idea that perhaps he was considered too old to make the move, although I appreciate he’s an integral member of his troop etc.
That’s good then, thank you.

I'm sure Jock will move with the rest of the gorillas. They will want the old site clear of animals to prepare for the potential sale, whenever that might be. The problem with Jock is that while he is an integral part of the group he is also advancing in years, being currently the oldest male in the UK.
Also while he stays as leader of the group it means his adolescent daughter and granddaughter, like others previously, will both have to leave the group to avoiding inbreeding, and reducing the group size back to 6. But if a new male came in as replacement, they could stay in the group and breed with him.

I’ve seen the same post and I think it’s simply worded as such because she’s the individual pictured.

Are there any "floor plans" to view on the new Gorilla exhibit?
I saw some a while back but they were architectural-type ones which are hard to decipher as to exactly what they are. I haven't seen anything since plan-wise except those publicity videos using drones which are very short and hard to catch what is exactly there. I look forward to seeing it in reality.

I would have thought they could move a couple of Ostriches outside of opening hours and without closing the zoo.
Possibly but I know in the original plans it includes moving the shelter which would leave a big gap in their enclosure and I’m unsure if there’s fence behind their shelter. That’s the only thing I’m going off but most likely it is gorilla moving

I agree. You’d keep the giraffe, addax & zebra stabled, then do a soft introduction with screens in adjoining paddocks before gentle introductions with each mixed species. The gorilla facilities didn’t look ready last time I looked, but it could just be that heavy plant machinery is being removed or electrics are being turned on?

A common reason for closures such as this will be the use of vehicles on site (for whatever reason... maybe an animal move as mentioned above). When I did some contract work at YWP, we had to have everything set up and delivered (using our vehicle) by 9am at the latest. This was to avoid any potential collisions with customers.

On the flip side, it could be that someone has hired out the park for a private event, or some filming is taking place. We likely won't know unless anything is posted online.

Ah, in that case Ostrich move becomes a possible front runner too. ;)

From Member email:

16yr old Florence, zebra, has been pts due to her degenerative neurological condition, which affected the nerves to her back legs and left her uncoordinated and liable to falling or tripping.

Peter, remaining zebra, should be joined by two females in next month or so.

Addax are slowly being introduced.

BZP are great at keeping Members up to date with news.
