Lowland Gorillas in Europe 2025

It‘s also possible that the breeding in Fasano was not allowed by the EEP. While Nasibu is obviously not genetically identic with his brothers, I find it hard to believe that he has a breeding recommendation.

I am not saying anything about a possible breeding recommendations.
but you always will lose some genetic information by letting breed one brother. and excluding the other boys . of course their mt-DNA will be the same. but in mist humans that's passed in by the female / mother. of course their y-chromisome will be identical. that' s only passed on to sons, grandsons.
the other genetic maje-uo will or could differ in many points. and besides that their epigenetic make-up could show differences.
and the age of the breeding male will influence ir could influence which genes will pass on from the male/father.
females do have a different strategy. the reproductive eggs are present in the unbirn one, long before birth. in the process of ripng the than becoming mother/female can choose which egg will ripe.

so lots of variations and possibilities.
also see how quick the modern humans git their genetic information from denisivans, neanderthaler. HLA system, oxygen adaptation Tibet, the gene MUC19 on chromosomen 12 long arm side.

besides possibilities are also impossibilities.
E = v, s, r

The thing is Nasibu has many breeding siblings, incl brothers.
not that long ago any breeding was s curiosity, and any motherraised an exception.
the fact that he has many breeding siblings, incl. brothers does not make him invaluable for breeding. the breeding of the brothers and sisters makes the valuability. it means they bred too much.
too much in regards towards managing the zoo gorilla.

maybe, changing females from males, in order to have offspring by different males could provide more possibilities for the future.
maybe.

Three female gorillas were moved between zoos in The Netherlands on Friday 26 September.

Dafina went from Artis to Beekse Bergen.
Yanga went from Artis to Burgers' Zoo.
N'Aika went from Burgers' Zoo to Artis.
When N'Aika is settled in, another female will join the Artis group from Beekse Bergen.

Articles about it (in Dutch):
One from 10 September from Artis -> Verhuizing westelijke laaglandgorilla’s | ARTIS
From 26 September from both Beekse Bergen and Burgers' Zoo -> Beekse Bergen verwelkomt vrouwelijke gorilla
Drie Nederlandse dierenparken ruilen gorilla's

There's two candidates for the female that will join Artis from Beekse Bergen:

0.1 Tuena (10/04/2009) Bokito x Tamani
0.1 N’Washi (25/08/2009) Bauwi x N’Gayla

Since we know Akili's troop at Artis won't be a breeding troop, it helps with deduction. Tuena's already had a breeding recommendation and unfortunately lost her son earlier this year. Whilst N'Washi hasn't had one yet. So for that reason, it might be N'Washi, but Tuena is much less valuable imo.

Here are the populations of each facility now:

Burgers Zoo

0.1 N’Gayla (09/05/1993) Gorgo x N’Diki
0.1 Nimba (31/01/1999) Xebo x Machinda
0.1 Makoua (11/06/2004) Derrik x Effie
1.0 Viking (02/04/2009) Vizuri x Kira
0.1 Yanga (29/10/2016) Batouri x Zazie

Natura Artis Magistra

0.1 Binti (19/11/1992) Bongo x Tsimi
1.0 Akili (16/10/1994) Matze x Rebecca

N'Washi will be moving to Artis.

It seems that something has changed, because according to a news article, it is now Tuena who will be moving from Beekse Bergen to Artis.
Makes sense. Tuena is the least valuable out of the two girls, so she's the best suited for a non breeding troop.

still a very strange last moment decision.
the fact of genetic valuability has not changed in the last ten month. so any idea, insight about that will be the same three weeks ago, as yesterday.
why should that exchange been moderated last minute?

In the video, they talk about a 12-year-old gorilla, so it could be Tambo.
It could also be Ayo, who's also 12 and is valuable on his mother's side but not his fathers. Tambo on the other hand comes from quite well represented lines.

A zookeeper responded to the Instagram post that Ayo was featured in the video, but that he is not the one who will be going to Basel. So it must be Tambo.

Mobali has indeed been neutered.

Tambo is related to the young females in Basel, and Ayo is also related but it is further out.

So perhaps Yeba is the one, unless they plan to move the young females.

Basel could transfer out the two younger girls (Makala and Qaziba) if they acquire Tambo. The other young female, Adira, is related, but not as closely related as the other two.
