Scratch the last part, the baby is a girl!

Some more information about the first days: Ruti didn't know how to breast feed the baby, she would give the baby her finger or her lips to suck on when she cried. The keepers attempted to show her how to breast feed by using orangutan plushies to demonstrate. They ended up finding a guest who had a baby who was willing to sit infront of the glass and breast feed her baby infront of Ruti. This seemed to work as Ruti finally started putting the baby in the right positions for it to feed. Since Friday the baby has been suckling and has gotten much stronger. Source
 
Bako, the elderly male orangutan at Borås Djurpark, has died:

"Earlier this week, we made a difficult but necessary decision to euthanize our old male orangutan, Bako.

After a time of illness, where veterinarians and animal caregivers worked daily on treatments, it was clear at the beginning of the week that Bako's age would finally take its toll. The decision to euthanize Bako was made and he fell asleep peacefully in the presence of his animal caretakers.

Bako was born in 1987 and came to Borås Zoo already in 1990. He has been a well-known individual among many of you who have visited us over the years.

Still left with us is the female Sabine and the male Brutus, born in 2017, who is Bako and Sabine's last kid. Both Sabine and Brutus are fine according to the circumstances."
 
that female Bornean orang who passed away, named Mota. she came from Amsterdam. but has she stayed before Artis in that famous zoo of Wassenaar? being swept after it became clear what genetic differences there occurred between the orangs from Borneo, Kalimantan and Sumatra. by the work of that then young man L.E.M. de Boer.
these days they were je unaware of that third orang species. maybe there were some rumours.

Yes, she did indeed live at Dierenpark Wassenaar before moving to Artis.

Sadly, 20-year-old Samboja has passed away. Two weeks before giving birth, the keepers noticed that Samboja was not feeling well. After the birth, her health deteriorated: she barely ate or drank, despite the intensive care provided by her keepers and the vet.

Her newborn young, a female, is doing reasonably well under the circumstances. In consultation with the European population management programme, they are looking at how the young can receive the best care.

uhh. sad news. the newborn one is a female.
in humans, by births with difficulties, daughters seems to have an advance in surviving, compared to make baby.
anything known about a possible advantage for female newborn ones?

so far, the youngsters seems to cope with this situation. we have to wait, see, hope.

anyone knows how that young, orphan, one week old orang is doing at the Apenheul, Holland? her mother Samboja passed away after birth. the young orphan seeems to be a girl. but how is she doing, any suggestions about the near future for her?

She's doing reasonably well, but apart from that, nothing else is known about what will happen to her.

so far a little bit good, so to say, and the best that can be done.

An orangutan swap going to happen in this month between Pairi Daiza and Frankfurt Zoo. Sinta, Jula and Molli move to Frankfurt to breed with Kembali and some orangutans from Frankfurt going to move to Pairi Daiza. It comes official from the facebook page of Pairi Daiza.

Perhaps it's Sayang who's been separated from the main group for a while now? Presumably Frankfurt now intend to hold two separate breeding troops - rotating Kembali between them.
