Howletts Wild Animal Park Howletts news 2025

Is this the zoo whose owner has just been arrested after a charity investigation?

Aspinall was initially partly suspended as a trustee etc last December and investigations were ongoing for five years into his various antics including (allegedly) paying his wife for being an interior decorator and his step mother for gardening services etc as well as a host of bent agreements with rich folk to pass money around. The latest moves appear to be appointing an independent panel of people to take over the running of the charity which was reported at the start of August and in the last few days he’s been suspended entirely

Troubleshooters sent into wildlife charity linked to Carrie Johnson

but has he actually been arrested?

Let’s be honest, his old man did some things that would be considered odd, but in that age you’d never get caught out!

None of the articles on this subject say he has been arrested he has only been suspended as a trustee of the Howletts Wild Animal Trust.
The inquiry is also still ongoing.

Male Clouded leopard to be imported from the Netherlands:

Mirri (female Clouded leopard) will be joined by a male Clouded leopard from the Netherlands in the coming months. This would be one of the triplets born earlier this year at Ouwehands Dierenpark Rhenen.

From the WCCC newsletter:

In the coming months, a young male from the Netherlands will be joining Mirri in the UK, with hopes the pair will form a new breeding partnership for the European program. Howletts has a long and successful history with the species, and this next chapter could help rejuvenate their breeding efforts.

We are also exploring future collaborations with the Aspinall Foundation (our partners in the Cheetah Rewilding Project) to assess the potential for clouded leopard rewilding — something never before achieved globally. While these cats are far more elusive and difficult to monitor than cheetahs, the idea of seeing Mirri’s future offspring return to the forests of Asia is a powerful vision.

Exciting news for future breeding success of the species!

There has been a real need to revive the once flourishing breeding program Howletts Zoo and Port Lympne had with clouded leopards! The population in the UK and at both zoos has been ageing fast and reproductive output is not what one would wish for.

Went for the first time in about two years today, and was a brilliant day for seeing things seen as there were so few people, only me and around 5 other cars. I saw pretty much everything excluding the maned wolves (which was a shame seen as they are very new editions), pallas' cat and banded mongooses. The main activity I was doing was trying to work out where the orangutan will go when they move the younger one there in afew years from now, I am thinking one of the gorilla enclosures by the herb garden, but maybe they'll build an entirely new exhibit (doubtful). The only enclosure I had much criticism over was the snow leopards, which was not as good as I remembered, and was sub par compared to the likes of many others in the UK. Bring back the honey badgers please.
