Pairi Daiza Pairi Daiza News 2025

In a few days time the three female orangutans Sinta, Jula and Molly will leave Pairi Daiza for Frankfurt to live with a female, on recommendation of the EEP.

This means one of Pairi Daiza's orangutan groups will leave, the group living behind and next to the Craftsman's house (the building with all the wood carvings).

Pairi Daiza will in return receive new orangutans from Frankfurt. It is not mentioned whether they will continue to keep two groups or not.

Sinta was there a long time but Jula and Molly are far more recent additions. I guess this has all to do with the loss of male Gempa. I think they will continue with two groups as the enclosure is really only suitable for Orangutan- unless it was another Ape? I thought maybe they will give the young male Berani a female to pair with? (I did think perhaps they would move him to this leaving group, but no.

On ZIMS, you can see that a facility in belgium has 2 Colombian Red Howler monkeys (Alouatta Seniculus). Pairi Daiza is the only real possibility, Pakawi doesn't have the space or money and KMDA would not keep something like that secret. Possibly they will go to the Sanctuary if they are indeed in Pairi Daiza, does anybody (perhaps with proper ZIMS acces, as i only have acces to the IUCN version) have more information or confirmation?

The sanctuary is no more...

Instead it now has a new name: Edenya: The Living Sanctuary, pending to be registered as a brand. I couldn't find anything about the name Edenya though, other than the fact there is a French band with the same name. On the logo (in the source): a jaguar, squirrel monkey, manatee, butterflies, pygmy hippo, sea turtle, shark, tapir, ara and (giant) otter, indicating these animals will almost certainly be found here! You can also see a plane (is this going to be the third crashed plane in Pairi Daiza??), a large waterfall, an aquaduct, a statue from an indigenous american culture, cacti, and as always, some crystals. Hopefully this means the sanctuary will open soon...

I just jumped on this news when i got the notification ! I gotta say that the logo is pretty to me.

About the crashed planes in the park, where is the second one ? I just know about the one in the hyenas's exhibit. The only other plane i know about is the one in Land of the cold, and it's not crashed.

If we just look at the logo and based on it's animals(Manatee, jaguar, tapir, monkey, etc), it seems like it will be South American/Amazonia themed . Just a bit weird to put the pygmy hippo in there. I just remember about the Coccaine hippos in Colombia but while i double Pairi Daiza made this on purpose, this is the only way i found to make the hippo "fit in"

There is a different species of manatee from West Africa, which is on-show in 11 collections in Asia (according to ZTL), so it is not impossible that it might be part of the plan.

Yeah, there are African manatees but i doubt Pairi Daiza will get some of them. Every single captive individual live in Asian Zoos and it would be easier to get West Indian Manatees that are more common in European collections.

There are also some Amazonian manatees in captivity but for the same reason, i don't think we'll see them in Europe anytime soon

It will not be Latin-American themed, but rather feature animals from all over the world. No need to think of convoluted ways to be able to put pygmy hippos in... Other rumoured inclusions are Komodo dragon, drill, Aldabra giant tortoise and possibly the Livingstone's fruit bats which have recently arrived from Jersey...

I wasn't really aware about the "All over the world" aspect because i assumed it would be latin America according to the logo (minus the hippo).

And even when i said my theory about the reason for the presence of hippos, i was kinda joking. 200% chances that Pairi Daiza would not make a reference to Coccaine hippos, not any zoo would

So because I was interested i also looked at some other trademarks that Pairi Daiza applied for/registered and found this:

Nautis: applied march 2025, accepted june 2025
I wonder what this could be? A new name for the aquarium? Or something else? Perhaps that blue oasis that is to be built on the other side of the old parking lot? Anyways, it sounds exciting!

Another fun thing: Pairi Daiza has the name of their pandas registered as a trademark...

I have heard about the blue oasis a few times now, but does anyone actually know what it is?

Pairi Daiza will gets its own train station. Right now public transport visitors have to get out at Cambron station, which is about a kilometer from Pairi Daiza. Visitors who come by train will get their own access with an Indian theme. The construction of the new station will start in June 2026 and is expected to be completed in 2028.

That would be great! No more walking from the station from Cambron when you go to Pairi Daiza.

That would also mean less traffic jam as less visitors would come by car. Going by train would be much easier for everyone. And ending up directly in front of the new entrance would be so like Antwerpen where you get out of the train station and BAM, you're in front of the zoo !

Also, yeah, the new train station would end up directly in front a of a second, new entrance at the park. Located at the complete opposite of the current one, much closer to the elephants.

Amazing news for someone without a car like me :p
However I wonder, the train station is going to be near the large elephant stalls... does this mean there will be a path through the elephant steppe? Or how will this work? I hope this means a bit more of the steam train only enclosures with deer, blackbuck and markhor will be visible.

A bit more info on the Financials as well: the new underpass/ station will cost 4.8 million, of which 400.000 paid by Pairi Daiza. The new entrance is going to cost another 10 million.
A render of the underpass:

That's great news! It will make the zoo much easier to visit for those of us who don't have a car.
