Are the hornbills still there? (In the bat and tortoise aviary)

Some more news from yesterday :

- In the Flying Foxes and Aldabra Giant Tortoises (again) the Crowned Lapwings seems to be gone (no more sign and I didn’t seen them)

- The Red-Shanked Doucs now have access to both indoor aviaries ! That wasn’t the case for years

- Arrival of at least 4.0 Blue Ground Dove in the Golden Parakeet and Elegant Crested Tinamou aviary (they are inside only for now)

- The Golden-Bellied Capuchin are gone, and are remplaced by the 3 Black-Belted Black and White Ruffed Lemurs that were their neighbours, 2 Ring-Tailed Lemurs are also visible in the house (they are all inside for now)

- The Black-Belted Black and White Ruffed Lemurs and Ring-Tailed Lemurs at the entrance are still there

- The old Black-Belted Black and White Ruffed Lemurs islands are currently empty

- The Andean Cock-of-the-Rock is gone

I went in Beauval last Sunday, not much to say about the animal collection.
In the bird show the Kookaburras weren't displayed, but a young Andean Condor was present.
No more Glossy Starlings nor signage about them in the Fruit Bat/Aldabra Giant Tortoise aviary ; nearly all the young Tortoises have been transferred in the nearby enclosure of the Radiated Tortoises.

Some recent births have been reported on the zoo's newsletter : 1 Crested Partridge, 1 Crowned Lapwing, 1.0 Bolivian Squirrel Monkey, 1 Patas Monkey, 2 Barbary Monkeys and 1 Hanuman Langur.
And the zoo has received 11 Northern Raccoons in April 2025 ; I have no information about their origin.

I was in Beauval today, I've noticed some newborns : 1 Colombian Spider Monkey and 3 Asian Small-clawed Otter kits.
And a "new" species in the Vivarium : 1 Malagasy Tree Boa Sanzinia madagascariensis. This snake was already on display in the past (early 2010s).

The departure of the Panda pair is scheduled for Nov. 25th.
Les pandas Huan Huan et Yuan Zi repartiront le 25 novembre prochain du ZooParc de Beauval pour la Chine

The new Raccoons come from the Netherlands.

According to this facebook post, the dolphin project is slowly confirming itself...but for the Planète Sauvage's dolphins, not Antibes

While i'm glad that the project is still ongoing(Breeding will be allowed), it won't be done until 2027(if no slowing or trouble happen...) and Antibes can't wait forever

And of course, our activists friends are against this project that includes public interactions and breeding. And according to this article, Delord threatened to give everything up if it wasn't accepted(Bluffing or genius move ?)

Ferme opposition des associations, coup de sang du directeur de Beauval : le projet de centre qui pourrait accueillir les dauphins de Marineland démarre dans la douleur

Well, Delord just posted a video confirming that this dolphin project will be real by 2027 and building will start in beginning 2026. This could house 30 dolphins, they would be schools of fishes, water currents, hidehouts if dolphins want tranquility and large glass viewing.

And of course, our activist friends are furious because their fantasy of a scamctuary with no breeding and show is not going to happen

"Our activist friends" are not as ridiculous as you describe them... I hate this project. The video of Delord just shows that it's another of his useless and commercial ideas. Using the excuse of conservation for keeping dolphins is a shameful way to justify another commercial attraction. What's the real message being sent? We don't want dolphins in other zoos but it is absolutely fine if Beauval does? And in a wider perspective, if such a project is accepted and encouraged, the captivity of cetacean is definitely over.

I think it's really important not to engage in ridiculous speeches justifying everything a zoo does and try to keep some critical thoughts.

Congratulations ! You found out zoos are commercial ! Don't you think i know it ?! I'm not stupid, i know this is an excuse to get them but this project is more promising than just another new swimming pool with no stimulations.

Yeah dolphins are social animals, but they won't stay in their pods their whole life. Once maturity reach, they leave their pod to join another or to make their own. Ending captivity for cetaceans but not every wild animal is hypocrisy and/or double standards ! And we all know what happened to Antibes, now they're trapped in crumbling tanks in the name of "free all captive dolphins and ending the industry", as if captivity=hell.

I may sound rude and i'm sorry but this whole "DoLpHiNs BeLoNg In ThE sEa" is getting on my nerves because most arguments used in favour of this ideology is anthropomorphism or blatant lies for a well made propaganda. By the way, we're getting dangerously out of topic...

You are getting out of the topic, I was just questionning the whole project. And I don't like your sarcasm by the way. I have the right to dislike Beauval's delphinarium, as you have the right to like it, but no need to get mad at me because I disagree with you.

Activits' way of expressing their ideas may sometimes be off-topic or povoking, but in that case, I think there's a part of truth in what they are standing for. Of course there's a part of anthropomorphism, but let's not forget science. It's not as hypocrit as you think it is. Some species are just not suited for captivity. That is a fact. Some species have needs impossible to recreate in captivity.

Zoos must focus on conservation and keeping threatened species. But dolphins are being phased out of zoos, and it's a bad idea to step back and create a "sanctuary", because it is really not one. Conservation must be a real motivation, even the main one for zoos, and not a commercial one, as it is the case with the delphinarium in Beauval...

Sorry if i made it seem like it but i'm not mad at you and there's nothing personnal in my sarcasm. I'm aware that not every species can thrive in captivity, but dolphins are a complicated topic as we made it clear by our different point of view. I totally agree about the conservation motivation aspect but commercial and conservation are not incompatible, even if dolphins are not an endangered species.

What did you expect would happen after zoos were told for decades that “they should do more than just keep animals” or, as you said, “must focus on conservation and keeping threatened species” as if keeping animals (without a noble cause) is some sort of atrocity regardless of welfare? Of course the word “conservation” will be plastered as a selling point or some sort of apology by Delord for keeping animals. The new enclosure provides the animals privacy and enrichment in the form of currents and live prey, but it’s bad because it’s not noble enough? Because bottlenose dolphins are not threatened per the IUCN?
