Lowland Gorillas in Europe 2025

It‘s also possible that the breeding in Fasano was not allowed by the EEP. While Nasibu is obviously not genetically identic with his brothers, I find it hard to believe that he has a breeding recommendation.

Is it Nasibu who lived in Sweden (Kolmården) for a while in his youth? If so, does anyone have information regarding if it ever was established that it actually was the then silverback Efata who sired the babies Enzo and Ecco? I would not be surprised bearing in mind how long it otherwise would have took for Efata to breed Naomi. Or was it so that the plan with the introduction of a rival lighted the spark?

That was a different Nasibu.

as far as I can find, Efata is the father of Enzo and Echo.

In Thoiry the males are separated into two two-membered groups. Ayo with Yeba and Wazungu with Tambo.
Indeed, so it would make sense if one of the males who's left behind will also soon be transferred out (or perhaps introduced to the other two).
which male gorilla is heading for Antwerp?
could be Wazungu
That would make sense if Tambo's going to Basel.

No, that Nasibu lives in Lisbon, A genetically under represented male. It was confirmed that it was Efata who sired the two young males, not Nasibu.

12-year-old gorilla male Ayo has moved from Thoiry to Zoo Antwerpen.

Antwerp finally gets their silverback; great news. They currently have 2.5 gorillas;

0.1 Amahoro (00/00/1990) Wild - Eastern Lowland Gorilla
0.1 Mambele (21/02/1999) Arti x Zazie
0.1 Mayani (06/12/2001) Xebo x Machinda
1.0 Ayo (31/12/2012) Makula x Dalila
0.1 Thandie (27/11/2018) Matadi x Mayani
0.1 Vizazi (24/06/2020) Matadi x Mambele

Ayo looks to me like genetically very valuable. His mother is wild caught and Ayo is her only infant who hasn't reproduced yet. His father died a few years ago and hasn't any grandchildren yet. And the genes of his grandmother aren't widespread either (Blackpool, Berlin, Kerkrade and Apeldoorn). Only his grandfathers genes are very widespread but he is from another lin than Mayani and Mambele. Looks to me like an excellent match.

In Antwerp Vizazi has a leg in a cast. During Ayo's introduction, she did not behave as expected. Hopefully she will recover well, because Thandie is still not walking properly on the leg that was in a cast.
It means now both sisters got a broken leg
also, how many G.beringei beringei/graueri antwerp kept in past?
