African penguin chick hatched October 1:

Endangered African penguin chick hatches at Chicago's Lincoln Park Zoo

The chick's egg was laid by Rosie and her partner Cecil as part of the African Penguin Species Survival Plan.

Cecil and Rosie have not been so great at raising penguin chicks in the past, so another pair of penguins, Liam and Maria, will raise the chick, the zoo said.

The zoo is looking for help naming the chick, with a vote between four user-submitted options, all of which I quite like:
Uno – A Lincoln Park Zoo staff submission! Uno is short for “unombombiya” which means “penguin” in Xhosa, a Bantu language indigenous to South Africa.

Pebble – A Lincoln Park Zoo volunteer submission! An ode to the ‘boulder’ in Boulders Beach in the African penguins’ native range.

Waddle -A Lincoln Park Zoo social media follower submission! Self-explanatory and adorable.

Bean - A Lincoln Park Zoo social media follower submission! Because Cloud Gate didn’t quite roll off the tongue.

It's hard to believe the little guys are already heading out - it's been fun having a rather large pride here and added a lot of interest to the new lion exhibit. I'm going to miss these little guys but happy to see Pilipili heading out to a breeding situation and his brothers sticking together. Hoping to see them one more time before they leave.
