New Zoo Books

As mentioned above, I double-checked my remarks against the ZSL website before posting. A more complete answer follows.

London Zoo’s first Insect House of 1881 has been well-documented in various publications, including the ZSL Annual Report of 1881. According to this report, the house was placed under the sole charge of Mr. William Watkins "an experienced entomologist". Surely, therefore, Watkins not Cheesman was the zoo's first insect keeper.
I agree, the problem when researching this kind of thing, is that I accepted the information that I read, can be a minefield, obviously.

Apes to Zebras to Nosey: One Hundred Years at the Fresno Chaffee Zoo (Chaffee, 2025) will be published on July 8th. It was written by Jean Chaffee, the widow of Dr. Paul Chaffee, and the book has an interesting title as it's difficult to pinpoint the exact start date for the zoo. Roeding Park Zoo is generally acknowledged to have been founded in 1907, although the AZA recognizes its opening as being in 1929, and yet the book is advertising the centenary and that seems a tad premature. Regardless, I will definitely buy it! :)

A new book about czech zoos came out not so long ago. It's called Velká kniha o zoo (The big book about zoos) and there's no english translation and I guess there won't be any in the future either, but who knows. The book includes themes like what are zoos good for, history basics, what EAZA and WAZA are, etc. There are also chapters on each czech zoo and some information on them.
I found the book in the bookstore yesterday, but did not have much time to look through it properly. But personally, I'm not planning on buying it anyways, since it doesn't seem like it would contribute me in any way. And it was published by a house that I really don't want to support with my money, which doesn't help.

The Primates: Taxonomy, Evolution and Conservation (Richardson, 2025) is due out from Pelagic Publishing later this year. It's going to be circa 1,100 pages, with 500 photos and 500 maps. The author (who shares my last name but is no relation) declares that this will be the "most up-to-date and ambitious one-volume synthesis on the subject ever produced, and sure to become the standard work on primatology for many years to come".

The same Matthew Richardson who wrote Threatened and Recently Extinct Vertebrates of the World: A Biogeographic Approach and claims that it is the most-up-to-date volume and standard work on threatened and extinct taxa?

“Nothing’s Impossible: The Peter Sampson Story” has recently been published. Written by Tim Ewbank

For those unfamiliar, Peter is the founder of Paradise Wildlife Park/Hertfordshire Zoo and The Big Cat Sanctuary. Any reviews welcome

Pity about the badly wing clipped macaw on the cover

Are there any good books anyone can recommend about Aquariums around the world or anything similar at all? Thank you.
