Taiping Zoo Updates (Visit 3 May)
I haven't updated for a while, so I'm updating information for my past few visits here.
Two new exhibits officially opened in February, but they were open from last year, and almost nothing has changed.
Kapibara, 9 ekor ular tarikan baharu Zoo Taiping
New Exhibit "Colors of Amazon"
The walk-through area is still closed, and will probably be permetantly closed, along with other walk-through areas in the zoo.
Species list:
Capybara (Hydrochoerus hydrochaeris) 0,0,1
Orange-winged amazon (Amazona amazonica) Not seen
Toco toucan (Ramphastos toco) Not Seen
Black-bellied whistling-duck (Dendrocygna autumnalis)
According to a staff member, the zoo is planning to obtain these species for the exhibit in the future:
- Tamandua sp.
- Linnaeus' two-toed sloth (Choloepus didactylus)
New Exhibit of Reptile Species
The zoo "officially" opened the exhibit in February, but no changes from last year.
New Animals
Lesser short-nosed fruit bat (Cynopterus brachyotis)
- Used to have 2-3 animals, but increased to 20+ animals recently
Lost Species
Golden-headed lion tamarin (Leontopithecus chrysomelas)
- Gone March 2025
Sunda Slow Loris Exhibit
- The exhibit is repeating closure and re-opening every few weeks
Temporary Off Exhibit as of 3 May
None (Sun Bear and Clouded Leopards are back on exhibit)
Facility
- Most signs in the zoo are renewed, with correct information
- Signs with long-gone species are mostly replaced
- Construction work started in the empty exhibit between the wild boar and lion
