According to CITES records, there is no evidence of any Leopard cats being exported from the range of Javan leopard cats, such as Indonesia or the Philippines, to Malaysia. The likelihood of this individual being a Javan leopard cat is extremely low.

Prionailurus javanensis distributes in East Malaysia too, so I thought it could be a possibility that the animal originated from the wild or a facility in East Malaysia. The apperance rather looks like javanensis, but I'm not totally sure about that.
I see, I must have overlooked that. To me, it also resembles the Leopard cat found in Peninsular Malaysia. To get accurate information, it might be worth asking the zoo staff, as they could provide some interesting insights.

This zoo has interesting animals, but the issue is that a lot of them are mislabeled and teh keepers provide inaccurate information...

I haven't updated for a while, so I'm updating information for my past few visits here.
Two new exhibits officially opened in February, but they were open from last year, and almost nothing has changed.
Kapibara, 9 ekor ular tarikan baharu Zoo Taiping
New Exhibit "Colors of Amazon"
The walk-through area is still closed, and will probably be permetantly closed, along with other walk-through areas in the zoo.

Capybara (Hydrochoerus hydrochaeris) 0,0,1
Orange-winged amazon (Amazona amazonica) Not seen
Toco toucan (Ramphastos toco) Not Seen
Black-bellied whistling-duck (Dendrocygna autumnalis)
According to a staff member, the zoo is planning to obtain these species for the exhibit in the future:
- Tamandua sp.
- Linnaeus' two-toed sloth (Choloepus didactylus)

The zoo "officially" opened the exhibit in February, but no changes from last year.

Lesser short-nosed fruit bat (Cynopterus brachyotis)
- Used to have 2-3 animals, but increased to 20+ animals recently

A friend of mine recently visited Taiping Zoo. According to information from the staff, the clouded leopards will be temporarily moved to the golden cat enclosure, while the golden cats will be taken off public display temporarily due to health issues.

The Asian Golden Cats seemed to be quite old, so that's understandable.
The Clouded Leopards taking temporary over that enclosure is a good news for me, since it will
be much more easier to see them.
Anyone knows if the clouded leopard is back on display? I was back there in September and cannot spot them. The golden cat enclosure looks limited vertically for clouded leopard if it’s going to be moved there
Side note: The eland in the African Savannah looks absolutely enormous from far. I like that they put nilgai in nearby enclosure because that’s the first time I’m able to grasp the size difference between the largest antelope in Africa and Asia

I was there a month ago, and the Clouded Leopard exhibit was closed.
However, I didn't check the Golden Cat exhibit, so it might be there.
The original Clouded Leopard exhibit is very nicely vegetated with a huge tree in it, but it seems that those vegetation is making the enclosure difficult to maintain.
