This was the first time I saw the European otters in their enclosure, even though they arrived some time ago. Some changes were made to the enclosure (I suppose this species is more escapist than the spotted-necked otter), and these changes make it difficult to fully view the enclosure from one of the viewing points
I was hoping that the expansion work had already begun in the area bordering the current zoo, however, it seems they haven't started yet, or at least nothing is known about it. Scaffolding was visible in the “alquerias” area (the smallest of the three expansion zones).
For my part, in my last visit, I saw a solitary (Phelsuma madagascariensis) a lot of time without this Species on show, in the enclosure where the panther chameleons should be. But no chameleons on show.
That sure is interesting reading! If I am correct Sosto Zoo has one breeding cow in F Kwanza and I seem to remember that M Tooth spend time at Sosto Zoo in the past. Perhaps a Quid pro Quo Breeding Loan arrangement?22 year old African Elephant Metzi has been transferred to the Stoso Zoo, in Hungry. She is also pregnant and due December 2026 sire of the calf is Tooth.

I know I lamented and been frequent quite critical at the general lack of breeding in Espagna in recent decades due to in large part to animal management stuck way too far into the past and maintained groups of non-breeding way too long before taking any positive action or even have or keep socially inept individuals while allowing perfectly healthy cows in reproductive age to not be mated or bred properly or ... lest be ... even in sub standard exhibit and facilities.News:
- The park has confirmed that Kwanza, one of the Southern white rhinoceroses (Ceratotherium simum simum) at the park, is due to deliver in November! This would be the first rhino birth at the Bioparc.

Today in that terrarium I saw 3 chameleons, a gecko and a hermit crab. The chameleons were quite small, I think they are youngsters.
New individuals:
- The park has obtained four Panther chameleons (Furcifer pardalis), one male and three females, from Zoo Zürich. The three females are on show while the male will be kept off-show, since they can't be housed together until the animals are older than a year.
It has been closed since a few months ago i think, let's hope working has started and it will be finished when they said it was going to be ready. The burger restaurant is closed and fenced off. Not sure if this is related to the expansion works though.
Hatchling news:
- Two Western black crowned crane (Balearica pavonina pavonina) chicks have hatched at the Bioparc, the first time this species has bred here!
