Chester Zoo Chester Zoo news 2025

Out of curiosity, does anybody know where the previous litter went? I know one out of the three, ended up at Port Lympne, however, it hasn't been posted to my knowledge where the other two moved to.
I think it was San Diego zoo in a swap for the new male.

Probably yes. I was once visiting the enclosure, when I think someone who was a manager of some sort (or just someone high up) was giving a tour to a few people (all in suits) and they asked him if they were going to keep all the little ones, and I swore he said 2 would go to San Diego, but until now I always thought I may have misunderstood.

A new Fossa went on display there just a few months ago, so it seems that at least one still remains at San Diego. Potentially both were sent across, with one then being sent to another facility in the US, or both remain at San Diego.

I've not seen any plans on the council website yet.
I don't think this will require planning permission if it only affects the internal fittings in the building: I don't think that there was any application before the interior was modified to hold the penguins off-show or for the conversion into a multimedia space.

Sad news is Kirana the Female Sumartan tiger who is a former Chester Zoo resident and went off to The Big Cat Sanctuary has passed away at the age of 19

Looks like the zoo is close too beating the uk visitor record in a year for a UK zoo, currently set by Chester in 2018, will they break the 2 million visitors i wonder

No, the record number of visitors in a year, for a UK zoo, is three million visitors at London Zoo in 1950 (due to the famous polar bear "Brumas" being born there in 1949).

A volunteer has made a comment stating both Anjan AND Maya are currently being crate trained and both elephants will be leaving Chester, which will leave Indali, Karishma and Elizabeth. Seems an awful shame to be rehoming Maya if the comments are true as she has been at the zoo for decades now. I suspect she may be clashing with Karishma?

Wow, I'm surprised to see they're attempting to transfer Maya. She's sixty years old next year, so I'd imagine doesn't have that long left - and transferring her at such an advanced age could present a wealth of risks. Although if Maya was clashing with Karishma, I doubt they'd have much of a choice.
