This year, 20 greater flamingo chicks have hatched. Among them was a chick raised by a male-male pair. It is believed that this same-sex pair began incubating an egg abandoned by another female, or possibly took over the egg along with the nest.

I am glad the earlier deal falling through has - at long last - prevailed. It is good that a major zoo like Tokyo Tama have this threatened species. I presume they are on breeding loan? Hence, also the question ... are they blood-related or an unrelated pairing ready to breed?

What is the current status of holdings for Grevy's zebra in Japan (preferably figures like sex/age and measure of relatedness!)?
