Visited the zoo today, just thought id give a quick update. The female Cheetah has arrived and is in quarantine. One of the males has now left in a swap deal for the female. Upali was out in the Elephant enclosure first thing before the rest of the herd was let out. We managed to see the Black Jaguar today  it was feeding on a rock in the enclosure very good view for several mins took lots of pictures and have put them in the gallery apologies for quality of some of the pictures had problems with glare. The Spider Monkeys were mating. I think Manyani has been moved out of Tsavo and the pregnant female who's name I cant remember has been moved in she looked very heavy and was laying down in a corner surrounded by hay in my opinion we can expect a baby rhino in next few days. The Coati enclosure near the Condors has now been dismantled completly and the ground flattened.

I wonder if that means they've put Manyani and Magadi together then?

Possibly, the Rhino that was on the left side of Tsavo where Manyani usually is didnt look like her this rhino looked a lots bigger and more subdued and the sign saying about Manyanis Polyp has been removed

I was told there would be no chance they would have both calves on show, so it will be interesting if Ema has been moved into Tsavo.

I agree, Manyani is a very laid back rhino and I don't they would move Ema to a strange new place just before the birth.

LeeMac13: Did you get this information from a keeper?

Last week the plan was to leave Ema in the old house and it was quite possible that both she and her calf would not go on exhibition. The baby is expected at the end of May or early June according to the keeper I spoke with.

LeeMac13,

I noticed you uploaded alot of picks of the gibbons, did you notice if the female was still seperate from the males?

sorry didnt get the info about the rhino from a keeper was just a thought i had as i wasnt sure about whether or not it was the Ema. Apoligies if this has caused any confusion. Also the female gibbon is still seperate from the three males.

Also saw a photo or two of the Bornean Orangs, How many did you see out and about?

there was about five of them out and about they were v active. Subis was also letting Kirana climb on her own on the small trees planted on the ledges

I asked last week and I was told none of the Bornean Orang Utans are pregnant. I never found out why.

Sorry can I just check, Emma is due around end of May? Do you think she and the calf will be on show in the future then or as she is in the old house it will remain closed? Sorry if this has already been said, just wanted to check as I would obv love to see the calf and Emma in the future if possible! Thanks

Yes she will stay in the off-show house, but its just the house. She has access to a paddock but rarely have I seen her out in it but with a calf we may see more adventures outside.

Yeah Ive seen her out and about in her paddock a fair bit so hopefully they will venture out together! Thank you :)

Visited today and can categorical say that none of the Black Rhino have been moved,:Dbut i will say this post has given the staff at Chester much amusement:D because of so many poeple reading more into something that hasn`t happened.

Well sometimes it's hard to tell the rhino's apart at the best of times, so an easy mistake to make. I'd have difficuly myself without the signs. As well, Manyana isn't the thinnest of rhinos, so could be mistaken for a pregnant one.
