Im pretty sure your thinking about White Tigers instead of White Lions Cat-Man.Bristol were very succesful with the breeding of these and they where all pure Indian tigers unlike the ones at West Mids at the moment.
Hope this is abit useful to you.

:Dhere is an old map from zoolex, but its not that old (from the time seal and penguin coasts was built:

ZooLex Overview

i know this isn't from the period you are looking but i hope it helps :D

The old penguin pool was in the south corner near the monkey temple. It was against the external wall. Almost next to the monkey temple was a tall circular raptor aviary, when I saw it it held a mixed group of vultures.

The prairie dog enclosure at one point also held mara, alpaca and macaroni penguins along with the prairie dogs. Actually the macaroni penguins could have been in a small adjacent pool, but not the main pool. Does anyone else remember this?

The tapirs were with a pair of agouti in an exhibit adjacent and to the right of the old zebra paddock.

Emus, red kangaroos and white storks were housed in a small paddock adjacent to the old okapi house and paddock (well, more of a pen).

The old polar bear pit became the tiger exhibit for a while. Towards the end of exhibiting polar bears there, two adjacent sand enclosures held arabian gazelle. Does anyone know what these were before this exhibit?

The Penguin enclosure was where the Pudu are(or were recently)

The areas adjacent to the Polar Bear pit were two more modern Bear pits for Brown and black bears. I think they were filled in before gazelles were kept.

The kangaroos used to be allowed into the adjoining hilly paddock in summer. This was situated between the Okapis and the Bear pits. Up until about the 1970's it contained a small herd(about five) of Axis deer plus white storks, the kangaroos and peafowl etc. That area was later swallowed up by the Seals and Coasts exhibit.

The Okapi used to be kept in the paddock and house where the Cassowary are now. I think there used to be a show pool for seals or sealions where zona Brazil is now, and I think there also used to be lamas in the prairie dog exhibit.

That I can't tell you.

so where were the okapi before the paddock formerly occupied by zebra

In a simple stable and small narrow paddock which was behind the building of the Pygmy Hippo(former Rhino) house. The house was nearer the(eastern) boundary wall of the zoo and the paddock extended toward the back of the pygmy hippo house. This area would now be part of Seals & coasts.

What you need is a map of the ZOO made about 1965. That would show you the main buildings that were there at that time which have since dissapeared and help you understand the former layout a lot better. After about 1970 a lot of changes took place.

Hi,

I've got lots of old maps from 1836 to present day. The zoo has changed loads in this period as you can imagine, so it's hard to tell you what was where without knowing specific year(s) you're thinking of!

That's cool, could you maybe upload some into the gallery? I'm sure loads of members would appreciate it! :)
