Dierenpark Emmen (Closed) Emmen Zoo news

I Guess she wouldn't really would she! But at least she has experinced plenty of birth within her herd a lot. The two sisters are now mothers, now we'll she about Swe Zin much later on. I'm waiting to see if Ma Palai is pregnant now! ( fingers crossed)

damn so it is a boy. Thanks for the link though Untbwe.

Supposedly he is a small calf at only 70kgs. Hopefully healthy though. I'm trying to think of a zoo that has a large established herd, that is like emmen but most of the time has females. ( hmmm)_

FOOD FOR THOUGHT:
There is something definitely iffy (and deeply disturbing) about the mega-preponderance of males born at Emmen. It is the biggest European Asian herd, and would be expected to be more natural from a herd structure, behaviour and natural selection operative side of things (the latter it somehow is not).

And you think nobody is thinking about that? Emmen really wants more females to be born, to form a natural herd, but unfortunately most calfs are male. If they had knowledge about any cause, they would try to cope with that. Perhaps it's just the fact that considering the luck emmen has with elephant breeding, there has to be a downside.

Two more elephants are pregnant at the moment, one is due for january next year, and the other for april. Radza has springfever, so it seems that the baby-elephant train will keep on rolling for the coming years.

Awesome news. Hopefully they will be females. ( obviously)
Do you know which ones are pregnant? I'm assuming Ma Palai and Htoo Kin Aye?

Radza is one outstanding bull I wish we had his bloodline here in Oz

who needs radza when we have the super stud! ;)
ahaha, kidding, I'd really love to have another adult bull here as well. Radza is simply just so impressive. Barely any asian bulls get tusks those big as well as his sheer size! If he was located in Kruger National Park ( home of the world's greatest tuskers) I would say he would rank 2nd of the current tuskers behind Hlanganini.

I can't wait to see what Unt Bwe, Myo Set Kaung, Yoe Ma and Anada Yingthway look like when they grow up. Hopefully they inherited thier father's genes, ( I know Myo set kaung probably already has)

Myo Set Kaung indeed has already large tusks, but it could be larger when he didn't broke them off...

Ein She Min Nayone or Prince of Spring is the name of the youngest elephant of Emmen. He shall called Ein She Min for short.

A beautiful name :)

Would you take a few new photos of Radza please :D
