Visited the zoo today very busy and very hot. Visited the African Aviary only saw a few of the birds took a few pictures will try and upload them later. Kitani and Asani were outside in the centre paddock today enjoying the grass and sunshine. Manyara was outside as well put in the enclosure next to the indoor house. No sign of Ema or the new baby. Some sad news we heard today that Fay the Giraffe had died on Thursday cause of death has yet to bedetermined at this time. No sign of the Otters today maybe they have been moved for the new enclosure? As it looks ready. Rhea have again been laying eggs not sure if they are being allowed to sit on them or whether they are being removed. For a few weeks now there has been no sign of the Marmots when we have visited does anybody know if anything is happening with them or are they just off show?

They had let Ema out with her baby after twelve today, according to the keepers. We went back just after, door was open but we had a no show. :(

Also we only saw 3 bird species in the new aviary, but then didn't stay long in there.

The Otters where most certainly still in their old enclosure today at least they where at about 4:00 pm,also tghe Banded Moongoose have gone from the old Kune kune pig enclosure and have been replaced by Dwarf Mongoose, also the Yellow Mongoose were out late on today and with a very young baby.and finally 2 young female Californian Sealions arrived at the zoo today, and have already been put in the main pool everything seems to have gone well with introducing them to the other 2,just so you know one came from Nurenberg and the other from Munich.

We were also at Chester today, it was a red hot day and surprisingly not too busy!

Asani was wallowing in a mud bath - will put photo up later - he was caked in it!! We didn't see Ema and baby either which was one of the main reasons we went. :( Asoka and Asha both laid out in sun but didn;t see tigers again!!

Managed to get a quick glimpse of Iznee and Sariki but photos didn't turn out very good :( Martha was out most of day looking a bit grumpy!! Still haven't managed to see Tuan - the other reason we went - I'm thinking I never will at this rate! Caught Puluh and Subis with Indah sat together on back ledge - a lovely sight all together - Subis intensely watching what Puluh was eating with Indah clinging on!!

We also saw spectacled bear which did not look big enough for the male - does anyone know if they have got a new female? The 3 baby Red River Hogs were also out enjoying the sun. The black jaguar still inside - was hoping to catch it outside to get a good photo.

Such a shame to hear about Faye the giraffe - there was one missing today but wasn't aware of the sad news until now.

Wow, so the zoo now has 3 species of Mongoose (well 4 if you count the Meerkats). Rather impressive tbh.

Pleased to hear the zoo's acquired some more sealions aswell

So there's still more mongoose species in the pipeline?

Good news about the sealions, the pool has looked a little empty for a while now

I forgot to mention in my original post the other day, in the indoor jaguar enclosure on Saturday there were two live birds flying around the enclosure which the jaguar was chasing and attempting to catch presumably to eat. Im i right in thinking the birds probably have just flown in through a gap or the outdoor enclosure or would the keepers have released them. The latter i think is highly unlikely as im sure they wouldnt be allowed live birds. would they?

No, that's illegal in the UK so they must have got in themselves. I saw the marmots on Sunday by the way :)

They would be wild birds that flew in

A tiger killed and ate a pigeon a year or two ago. The only exciting thing I've ever seen is a white stork catch a frog.

One of the Servals nearly had a Grey Squirrel on saturaday but unfortunately it got away, much to the joy of the other visitors watching!!!!!!!!
