It was from europe but because of the outbreak in blue tongue the import didn't happen.

Almost nearly but not quite, some were coming from Europe but the main group wasn`t,not going to comment any further as it was a bit political.

www.Zootierliste.de lists Lesser Kudus at Chester. ;)
Well who ever edited that on too Zootierliste wants to remove as its completly wrong, this is how rumours become fact no wonder Chester management are keeping an eye on here as to what is posted, when people can edit websites and put complete lies on to a site, because Chester has got no Lesser Kudus. In fact i`m considering if it worth me continuing to post on here as so much rubbish is been posted on here and is starting to be believed as FACT when it is un-true.

Just a question, I went to Chester today and I was wondering why they appear to have nicked a sign for the Preswalskis horses from the Welsh mountain zoo? It's half in Welsh and has their logo on the bottom lol.

It's been there a while (as in years) and is the result of a joint programme with introducing the horses to a nature reserve if I remember rightly. And it has an identical twin in Colwyn Bay!

I just spotted that Zootierliste also has Mercedes the Polar Bear down as already at Highland, which is not yet the case (as far as I'm aware). Someone's obviously had an enthusiasm outburst and started updating things in advance (and seemingly on strength of rumour in the Kudu's case)...

Thanks for clearing that up, I was a bit puzzled when I saw it.

I DO hope you will not. It is one thing that total rubbish gets posted on the forum and digress the forum to a quality it should not have. I am also very concerned that too much *** absolute rubbish gets posted on the forum.

Sure, we live in a free country and free speech is a greater good and all, but we live by the very fact that purported news that gets posted on the forum is true. If too many of us are just interested in writing for the sake of getting your name on the forum and being speculative at best, the whole forum will go down the drain with it.

I will stand up and fight anyone who by nature downgrades the quality of our forum and makes it into laughable stock for all true zoo enthusiasts and any zoo management or keeper staff alike that read through it.

Zoogiraffe, please be with us and save us from the wikipedia ilk!

Thank you,

K.B.

I have no idea who uploaded the data that Chester Zoo has this species. But since You are sure they do not have them in their collection, I will delete this data.

It seems to me that Zootierliste was a better source of information in former times than now.

Zoogiraffe is quite correct. There are no Lesser Kudu at Chester, they have kept Greater Kudu in the past.

I don`t know Zootierliste is still pretty accurate for Germany it just seems to be the U.K which has got some pretty major errors creeping in to,probably says more about the people from the 2 countrys than anything else,if only we could have a bit more of that wonderfull German efficieny and habit of getting things done right the first time without the need for things to be done again because somebody went off and did it half-cocked like we get in this country.
I will stay on here for the time been if only to try to stop some of these rumours from becoming fact, but the number of posts i put up giving up-dates of info of things that have arrived etc will be reduced for the time been.

I would say not, as Zoogiraffe said they would be the only ones in Europe if I remember correctly?

Oh thats great news thanks, plus its good to see another species like the roans at chester hope they get a goat like species or some other hoofstock :).

It's just a species that was mentioned to zoogiraffe as being potentially lined up but he can't talk about what it is. As I understand it, this came from an off-the-record keeper chat and there's certainly been no official suggestion from the zoo that ANY new ungulate species are being lined up (although, as we've seen with the Roan, they do like to surprise us!).

Yes they did worryingly i`m old enough to remember seeing them at Chester as a junior member.

I'm old enough to remember seeing them as a senior member.

I haven't herard anything regarding new ungulates arriving this year, I was told of the arrival of the roan antelope by someone I had never received information from previously, so I did not take any notice. It turns out that the informat was right, I will believe what they tell me in the future.

I would be very surprised if a new ungulate arrives this year now, but there's plenty of hope for the future.
