Wonder if the little survey undertaken on age and gender is really indicative of the user base, if it is, it says a lot about who's not into this.
Anyway the point I want to make is, " With the onset of severe climate change and the inevitable ensuing mass extinctions are Zoos to become Noah's Arks or just pretty enclosure allowing a closeup of nature without the warts".

I think the future will reveal the answer to your question. It's less about what a zoo is than what we do with the resource they create.
 
Absolutely right about what we do with the resource. The question is who's agenda do we follow with regard to best use of the facility, I hope its a case of species protection first and the rest based on the capacity of the species to replenish their numbers in the wild.

I think, presently at least, this is somewhat ambitious as many species kept cannot maintain their own captive populations let alone sustain wild ones. In my humble opinion, this concept (which many zoos tirelessly promote) is rather like communism - a great idea, but one which will, ultimately, fail.

Anyway, this site is for opinions so I look forward to your reply.
