King Eiders

Are there any collections in the UK that have King Eiders, besides Living Coasts?
We've been to Living Coasts twice, the most recent being last October, but did not see any Kings. They only had Spectacled Eider,Long-Tailed Duck and Black Scoter in the Sea Duck Pool.

I saw a pair of king eiders last month at Living Coasts along with lots of spectacled eiders , which I assume are breeding there . The ducks can hide themselves away in the bushes in the enclosure when not on the water .

Blackbrook always used to hold them, as did Pensthorpe. Not sure if they both still do.

Thanks Paradoxurus,

Didn't see them when we were last at Blackbrook, but there were quite a few birds we didn't see. I'll have to ask Bloodycurtus.

Thanks Sun Wukong,

Interesting site. Is it any more accurate than ISIS ?

It's user-edited, which can have its drawbacks, but generally it's pretty good. For things like which animals are which subspecies, it's much more accurate and quicker to reflect changes (in taxonomy or identification opinion as well as holdings) in a lot of cases. Also, as the data is gathered by zoo nerds (i.e. us lot!) rather than being provided by the zoos, it covers a lot more collections. Of course, it is limited to Europe, and it's primarily a German site, so coverage outside Germany can be a little patchy.

That's where you come in, dear Non-German zoo nerd; please feel free to contribute!;)

Is it better than ISIS? Well, at least it doesn't list Golden Snub Nosed Monkeys for SDZ or similar zombie data...

Where's Hillside, Rob ? Is it like Slimbridge or martinmere?
Hillside is no longer open to the public,it is owned by the owners of Blackbrook and every so often they do have open days,I`m not aware of any dates for this year at the moment.

There was an open day last year, and most people on the forum seemed to forget about it.
