We visited the zoo yesterday it was quite busy. I thought id let people know some of the things we noted/saw yesterday. The lion tails, Mandrills & Spider Monkeys were all using the outdoor islands yesterday. The spider monkeys in particular were enjoying getting fruit from a cage hung from one of the poles. We also noticed that some of the Madrill & Spider Monkeys were carrying young around. The Banded Mongoose were out aswell showing off their new babies whilst being harrashed by the female warthog. Kitani, Asani & Manyara were inside the Tsavo house with Kitani & Asani having access to the centre paddock but prefering to stay indoors. We finally got a chance to see Ema and her new calf they didnt stay out very long especially when a group of noisy children came a long (There did seem to be lots of noisy children at the zoo yesterday :(). The Przewalski's Horse were relaxing under the trees including the new foal who looked really healthy. Also one of the female Roan Anterlope looked like her stomach was a lot lower compared to the others possibly a pregnancy? The Zebra and Oryx were mixed together yesterday and had the full run of the grass fields on that side. One of the Tapir has an eye infection and was being treated by the keepers yesterday with eye drops. Still no sign of the Pudu or the Red Panda cubs although she did look heavily pregnant and in my opinion could give birth any day now. We also noticed that there was three sealions in the nursing pool ( I thought only two were brought in?) assuming that they are in quarantine. A lot of calling from the Gibbons yesterday particular when they saw one of the Jaguar climb the scratching post. All three red river hog piglets were on show an looked very healthy as well as the yellow Mongoose and their babies. Margret the Giraffe seems to be staying very close to Thorn since Fay has passed away. The Two new Bacterian Camels are in a seperate pen at the momeny presumably in quarantine. The female Cheetah is still being kept separate from the three males.

I have included some videos below. Hope you enjoy them will also try and upload some pictures in the next few hours. :)

That video of the baby orang is brilliant, I don't think I've ever been to a zoo that allows the orangs to climb like ROTRA does. During my visit the mother gave the baby to the other younger orang for him/her to play with whilst she gathered things to build a nest with, I was pretty surprised. How old are both the young ones?

Don't suppose there was any sightings of Tuan the male bornean orangutan? I give up hope of ever seeing him! :(

I saw him too, and I have just posted a photo in the Gallery. A fashion note for you - the well-dressed orang is wearing a coffee sack this season :)

Taun is seperated from the females.

Guilty as charged, your honour!

I should explain that Tuan was looking over the chimp enclosure, and I was shooting over the heads of the visitors and the new fence round the old orang island.

how come you guys don't talk to each other when you see each other at the Zoo even though you are pretty sure who's who?.:D

Taun and Lee both spotted me while I was peering down my viewfinder (and probably cursing about the contrariness of orang utans under my breath) - I didn't see either of them - and I wouldn't have recognised them if I had seen them.
I must confess that I look almost exactly like my avatar, except for a hat (or cap), a grey beard, gold-rimmed glasses, a rucksack type camera bag, a Nikon with a long lens and a monopod. I'm perfectly happy to talk to anyone, unless they introduce themselves by placing a hand on my shoulder and saying 'You're nicked!' :)

Am usually unable to stop and talk (little monkey in-toe :p) but have realised after that I have just passed a zoochat memeber and usually is confirmed when they start posting the pic's.:o

that's what amuses me... we all sort of know each other on the Forum but not in the real world. I've seen a numer of queries such 'was that you at the rhinos this morning etc' :D

By the way- completely unrelated to that or this thread (how dare I...) have a look on Flickr at recent photos of female Gorilla 'Effie' at London and how round she has become... what do you think...(see also my comments about them on 'recent Visit' London thread)
