Chester Zoo Serval Escape?

I have just been reading one of the posts in another forum about animal escapes and somebody has posted that one of the serval got out a few weeks ago is this true? I havnt heard anything about it, they also state that it may have been shot????

I've not heard of this but the poster claims to have been in the zoo when it happened, he also said it probably was not shot. I guess it was recaptured, I hope so. I've been in Chester when they had three escapes, hamadryas baboon, wallaby and crimson-winged parakeet. All were quickly recaptured with no danger to any humans or the animal.

There was quite a crowd watching the escaped baboon, I expect the zoo would have to close if it happened now with all the (mostly unnecessary) health and safety rules.

I hope the serval is ok, though we did only see one of them on saturday i just assumed the other was off show:(

Also, did anyone else hear or see the mentioned elephant escape at Blackpool?

What! hendid this happen ?

elephant400 posted it in a thread.

With something like an elephant (not so much a serval) i'm surprised it hasn't broken to the press (especially with the animal rights groups history with the Blackpool elephants) so i'm still skeptical, but willing to be proven wrong.

Seconded Jimmy, I have my doubts as I'm sure we'd have heard of it. Although there is a massive steel rope fence up mow instead of just the pile of rocks and hotwire.

unrelated subject but i just read on the chester zoo appreciation group on facebook a comment by one of the members it says

"Me and my daughter went to chester zoo yesterday and were quite upset by watching one the orangutans banging its head against the cage........it obviously wasnt happy at all"

In my opinion this is very unusual especially at chester and in all my visits ive never saw anything like this.

Keep in mind the sheer number of regular visitors to Chester on this site and as far as I'm aware, no-one has mentioned any of this behaviour before...

It wouldn't surprise me if the person who has made the comment probably misinterpreted the Orang or is exaggerating. Away from sites like this, comments about zoos on the internet (tourist websites etc) tend to be wildly off the mark or ill informed.

I have also seen instances at Chester where visitors have been antangonising the apes so this may be the cause of any alleged banging.

as I said before, i'm skeptical so until I see it for myself, then I won't believe it.

Thats exactly what i thought when i read it, it really annoys me when people do that an have actually told people doing it at times to stop. Especially when the orangs come close to the windows or people bang on the glass:mad: It may have been that the person saw the orang being hand fed from one of the keepers from the walkway below the enclosure which looked liked the orang was banging there head against the bar (again ive never saw this and find it very hard to belief it) By the way another one of my pet hates is when people roar at the lions an tigers!!!
