Closed Different photos and post count.

hey everyone how are we doing?.

I was just wondering and realised that on the stat and user page of myself I have 109 photos 2,384 posts (after this one) which is probably correct.

but when I post and it redirects me to the thread under my frame it says I have 0 photos and 2,493 posts. But If I refresh the page it goes back to the count I mentioned before.

Just something I picked up but its no big deal.

On the STATS page I have 8,801 photos, but if I click on my own name then in the statistics there I have 8,799. For strange reason there has been a 2 photo difference for the past few months. Bizarre.

This is just a quirk of the way in which the photo count is calculated - it doesn't get calculated when you post a new message, only when you view it (hence showing after the page refresh).

The problem stems from the fact that I've (mostly) tricked the system into treating photos as different from forum posts - whereas in reality they are actually one and the same ... uploading a photo actually creates a new thread with a new post in it - containing the description of your photo.

To calculate the number of photos you have uploaded, I count the number of threads you have started in the photo gallery. Then to adjust the post count for the forums (which by default counts all posts, including those in the photo gallery), I subtract the number of threads you have started in the photo gallery from the total number of posts the system thinks you have made - and that is what usually gets shown as you post count.

In reality, the higher number (photos + posts) is what the system (correctly) thinks you have posted, but I make adjustments at various points to correct for photos being considered different to other forum posts.

Note that comments in the gallery are treated as posts just like they are in the forum area.

Hope this answers things for you.

I could probably fix it so that it shows the photos and posts separately when you make a new post - but I figured it wasn't worth the effort given that you don't see it that often.

There's probably a couple of photos or posts somewhere which are not being picked up by one set of stats but are by the other ... they are calculated in different ways. I'd have to go hunting to find out where the difference is - probably something pretty subtle.
 
Hey thanks sim for the explainations, it isn't a really big deal just that I realised one day that I had one hundred more posts on one page and roughly hundred less on the other.
