Dartmoor Zoo Species At Dartmoor Zoo

Yep, you're right, except it was a cage back when it held the pumas.

Rowan Atkinson ;)
Is anyone sure that a film is in the making?
I hope it really wont be an action film, it just wouldnt be truthful.
Do a drama type thing :)

Surely it will be based on Ben's book - the story of how he bought the zoo and so on?

Yeah i was being abit sarcastic ;)
But you never know if its going to be completely truthful.
I look forward to seeing it though!

Earlier in the year, Dartmoor received three reindeer; Comet, Blitzen and Donna. They are now on public display in one of the two hard standing areas and stables in the tapir enclosure. They also spend a few hours in the tapir's paddock but soon they will be in their new complex. :)

I saw them being walked round the zoo on Monday. I think this is to prepare them for Christmas duties!

The future reindeer enclosure will be where the Vietnamese pot-bellied pigs are at the moment.
And there is also a new puma but it will not be on display until the end of the year.

Does this mean the'll have to build a new puma enclosure as I thought the lynx (after some redevelopment0 had taken the puma enclosure? With the addition of puma dartmoor has really became a great place for cats with lions, tigers, jaguars, cheetahs, pumas and lynx

seems the uk has undergone a puma boom with quite a few colletions displaying these cats.

The puma is having a new enclosure built.

That is great news about the Puma, BearCat have you got any ideas where it came from?
Dartmoor has always been very good for cats it has had for quite some time the biggest collection of cats in the south west. :)

This zoo should be great when all the old enclosures that need rebuilding have been done.

If they could capture one of the many leopards supposedly on the loose on Dartmoor they would have all the 'Big Cats' .

It would be cool if they did get leopards for that reason though.
Edit: According to Wiki they classify clouded leopards as big cats though. I actually think they could house these in the tiger enclosure that houses the lone female tiger. Seems like it would suit clouded leopards brilliantly.

She came from Thrigby hall. But Amazona Zoo in Cromer I think is the sister park of Thrigby. So she might be the female that was replaced by the male at Amazona Zoo.

dartmoor could become the twycross equivelant for cats! and what about snow leopards?

anyway back to reality any news of the reptile house yet? or plans on the new vervet enclosure?

Yeah snow leopards are separate species too. Lets just hope they have breeding success with their cat species ;)
I don't know of any plans, I guess they'll be in the walk through field.

I was wondering what species of bird do they have other than the peacocks, guineafowl, pelicans, the pair of white-cheeked turacos, the macaws and maybe the lone flamingo if it is still alive.
Also what species of reptile do they have.
