I have just read the BBC Wildlife Funds allocation in the latest BBC Wildlife magazine, and I am so glad to see such an excellent amount was raised to help conservation projects around the globe.
From the Saving Planet Earth Appeal (which you may remember from 2007), £1.6 million was raised and distributed by the the BBC Wildlife Fund.
Along with the usual suspects, (Sea turtles, African Elephants, Indian Tigers, etc.) it was excellent to see some more unusual projects recieving funding, such as; protection of giant Clams in Borneo, reintroduction of Siamese Crocodiles in Cambodia and a community project helping protect Livingstones fruit bats in the Comoro Islands.
My personal favourite is the allocation of £60,000 to help protect Ethiopian Wolves in situ from the threat of rabies.
I am also pleased to see that the 'Landscapes for Bats' project in the UK was granted £66,000. Numerous other UK based projects also gained small grants.
I am so glad to hear of this excellent news. Does anyone have any other comments on this? Or any ideas of projects the money could be better spent on?
