Zoos in France

the montpellier male i believe is sampson the last male at edinburgh zoo born i believe at knowsley

Nope,

Samson went from Edinburgh to Peaugres Zoo. He is with 2.3 others. Some mating has been seen in February 2007.

Montpellier Zoo has a very old male Cassius at 37 (the former Longleat breeding male) and 2 young females imported from S.Africa.

it is a good thing for beauval

Oh, yes, I think I understand it- Beaval had no success with having baby gorillas from 'Yangu'...

Yes, and its good that they did something about it. Great news two more are pregnant.

Also the two females white rhino in Beauval come from Africa

The enclosure of black rhino in Doué la Fontaine

It looks a bit like the 'Grand Canyon' in the USA.....

Is this the parc where the male rhino 'KataKata' (born Port Lympne, sent from Chester) has gone to?

Is there any news as to whether he is mating/breeding yet?

It is a sight general of enclosure. There are Jeremy and Kata-Kata. No the news on the females.

M Katakata (captive born 1990 Port Lympne)
M Jeremy (captive born 2000 Dvur Kralove)
F Binti (captive born 2003 Berlin Zoo)

I think when Binti is introduced to a male next year for breeding, they will first try Katakata (as Port Lympne animals are not represented on the continent as yet). He is also an older bull and females seem to go for an older guy anyway ...!!???

KataKata is the son of the ex Whipsnade 1960's pair 'Bwana Mkubwa' and female 'Mama Kidogo'. He was born at Port Lympne after they were both moved there. Later he was moved to Chester. His sister is the female 'Rosie' at Chester (born after 'Mama was moved to London) but she seems to be a non-breeder. As both his parents are dead and KataKata has no offspring so far it would be excellent if they can breed from him...

CERZA/Lisieux

Can anyone give me a view on this place? I will be travelling back to the UK via a late night ferry from Caen in a couple of months and as it is very close I am wondering if it is worth a visit. Yoman - it is not included on your website. I'll also be going to Beauval during the previous fortnight.

yes yes visit cerza, it is like a french version of marwell, theres some really great exhibits and rare animals include black panther, white tigers, geladas, , spanish wolves, painted dogs, sri lankan leopards (they hold the studbooks for these) brown hyena, specatacled bear, pygmy hippo, congo buffalo, bongo, banteng to name but a few!

erm yes but that was before i had a digital camera, try the webiste its got quite a few on there

oh striped then, sorry i was looking at the guide book and couldnt remeber which type they were! any questions you want to ask before i go?

CERZA is nice. The enclosures are natural and has a beautiful collection. Yes, the files of the parks are carried out as and when but CERZA and Beauval are very good parks in France. You can find the link to the website of the zoo.

For the hyenas, there is Hyaena hyaena

I think, one of the most interesting zoos in France is Mulhouse zoo, I visited this summer and was really enthusiastic.
Some animals enclosures would not have won the first price, but the animals collection is very interesting, many species are unique in France, such the only bearded saki in Europe, the only male red-bellied guenon in captivity and white-collared brown lemur, other rare animals are crowned sifakas, Lac Alaotra bamboo lemur, Allen's swamp monkey, yellow-breasted capuchin, L'hoests and Rolloway guenon and many others...this zoo is a paradise for all, who are interested in primates.
