West Midland Safari and Leisure Park West midlands

Anyone else heard about plans to expand the drive though at west midlands safri park ???
 
this is a very exciting collection at the moment, with such rarities as phillipine deer, addax, banteng, african wild dogs and even an aye aye!!!!. They even had plans for indian rhino a few years back they had planning permission and whipsnade and dvur kralove offered some of their animals but the eep commitee knocked them back.

An Aye Aye, how interesting :). The collection is starting to get really serious now. Does anyone know where the Aye Aye came from?

Also, has the Cotswold Wildlife Park ever had Aye Aye?
 
I saw in the Gallary the photo of the Hippo herd at West midland which looks like a good size, had a look on ISIS which shows ten anianls there, cool.
 
Its easily the largest common Hippo group in the Uk. I'm not sure if they are breeding anymore at present though.

Only a few zoos in the Uk nowadays exhibit Common Hippo- Whipsnade, Dublin, Flamingo Park(whose animals came from the West Midlands group) and (possibly still?) Longleat- that's about it.

Several more exhibit the smaller Pygmy Hippo which is easier to accomodate in a limited space.
 
had an email from mr lawrence at the safari park saying keep checking the site news is imminent. i see they have bred from their phillipine deer.
 
wonder what new species they will bring in, the safari parks in britain seem to be bringing in more rare and unusual species.
 
bontebok maybe and somali wild ass, kudu, gaur, black rhinos, giant elands and congo buffalo maybe. most can be seen in the one or two collections in the uk at the moment. a lot of places do seem to be housing black instead of hite rhinos at the moment. eland and gaur are the most unlikely of the ones i mentioned.
 
where did you get this list from, there are no giant eland in europe never mind britain and no bontebok a great list though.
 
not and official list at all.

im just guessing sorry i should have maid it more obvious.

ps. dont africa alive have bontebok
 
africa alive have blesbok, the bontebok are a lot rarer in europe with i think leipzig and hanover holding them.
 
What's happening with their elephants? It's interesting that they still hold two bulls and two cows. Surely they have now reached breeding age?

Can help you there.

One of the bulls, Tooth, has been sent this June to Ouwehands Dierenpark in Rhenen (Holland). So, keep fingers crossed as I suppose they will now definitely try and breed their cows.

Remaining individuals:
M Jack (wildborn 1992)
F Five (wildborn 1992)
F Latabe (wildborn 1992)

Age 15 each seems a good time to initiate breeding long term.
