Noah's Ark Zoo Farm Is that a cub moving on the bedding

I looked at the web cam today, and all the time i was watching the tiger seemed very unhappy with the visitors at the window, even lashing out snarling etc when provoked by the public

another update underneath the webcam
Tira gave birth to three cubs on Tuesday 28th July, unfortunately two of these cubs were still born and only the middle cub has survived. However, Tira seemed confused by what has happened and has since rejected the living cub.

The Tiger Keepers are now attempting to hand rear the baby boy cub and he is being fed hourly, however he is very small and weak but the keepers are doing their best to help him survive.

The website will be updated once we have more news

I really hope the cub pulls through

another update

Hi Tiger fans, Just to give you an update we have taken the cub away are now handrearing it. The little cub weighs just 2lbs 3oz and it is a little boy. As with any handrearing it is touch and go as the baby is missing mum's antibodies that he can only get from Mum's milk. The keepers are working hard to look after the little cub with hourly feeds and we are hopeful that he will continue to thrive. We will keep you updated with any information as we have it. Many thanks, Noah's Ark

They probably wouldn't have needed to handrear had they not made the stupid cubbing den on public view! Argh, I could strangle Noah's Ark for their ignorance, it;s like they intended this to happen to get publicity!

Am i the only one that is not surprised by how things have gone with this birth?

Yes and no, apparantley these tigers are circus tigers, this could make them resilient to being shifted about and giving birth in unsatisfactory conditons.

Also the owner of the collection was at ZSL yesterday on BIAZA duties, registration etc (as were lots of zoo managers / directors so might not have made it been arouond to oversee the actions of the staff members.

Yes some stupid decisions were made, interferring with the cubs, regardless of the situation, opening up the viewing windows, but in the heat of the momment poor decisions are made. I've made them myself and known people make them.

Given the fact these tigers are apparently are of circus stock, therefore the pizza i've just eaten are of similar genetic value to the tiger conservation program as the animals they are touting as rare then perhaps these problems are erm... a god send!!!

Hand rearing a cub from less then 48 hours is not impossible but very very difficult, I just hope their doing it for the right reasons!!

Does seem that they havent even planned for the arrival of this very pregnant tiger with any thought to her needs. That window could have been permantly boarded up before they even arrived and a half decent birthing den prepared.

I certainly don't claim to know anything about their needs but even the bedding area looked very small with her layed out without small crushable cubs !

Even now she has had no peace if she has been seen getting stressed at people looking in!

Real shame she has had to suffer when a few alterations to the environment could have helped

This whole episode makes me really angry . Noah's Ark have made a total mess of the situation . I would hope that as members of BIAZA they would be taken to account in some way - doubt it somehow though . Do hope somebody from there browses Zoo Chat !

Its a tough subject, by try to nudge the boundaries, these are not critically endangered sumatran or amur tigers etc, these are probably inbred (at some point) mongrel tigers. Yes they are tigers none the less but so are all the white, tabby and strawberry ones, again pointless breeding them other then for the appeal of the kind of zoo visiter that remembers / expects chimps tea parties etc.

They stuffed up big time, and thanks to their webcam, on an international stage, hopefully they will learn from it next time ( open remark to Noahs ark, please don't breed from these tigers, hold them gain experience from them and in the 12 - 18 months get a worthwhile sub-species!!)

Yes they have stuffed up big time, but some how i don`t think they will learn from it so there will be a next time more`s the pity,as for getting a pure species i hope not.

I thought this would happen, the den was boarded up when I went, but had loads of holes cut out and neighbouring dens were still open to public view. I also think it's a possiblity that they weren't actually born dead and were just left like the surviving cub.
This may be a valuable lesson but it's at the worst possible cost.

I couldn't figure out why the cubbing box is right by the window but I can now-there is no other corner in the cages that is anymore private.

Well all i can say is well done Noahs i didn`t think they could screw up anymore than they already had but yes they can.

Any one considered telling them what they're doing wrong *coughZOOGIRAFFEcough*?
:D

Hehe.
I know we can't blame them for the cubs dying but I can't help but feel the really exposed maternity den that happened to be used when all the kids who've finished school were visiting might have assisted.

Incubator from poundland

Gawd its cute :D *cough* but awful they exploiting its cute chubby little stripy cuddly little self :o

This is why I dont work with animals :D

It is cute, looks awfully big though for such a young tiger.
