Chester Zoo New Exhibit?

On the Chester Zoo website it says that paths around the Red Pandas and Owls will be closed due to construction works- what exactly is this? Demolishment of the old otter enclosure? New enclosure (Dik Diks?)?

Might just be maintenance? Although the otter suggestion seems plausible.

A few days ago the same message was on, however it involved the paths around Tsavo and Monkey Islands instead

Regarding the dik-diks. The spotted deer enclosure next to the Ostriches has been re-done and looks like it would be quite fitting for dik-diks. Anyone know anything about it, i forgot to ask last week.

I noted that, and the Dik-diks did cross my mind.

Interesting Idea, but I got the feeling that they may not be on display for some time.

The Oakfield aviaries and the old otter pool have now been demolished. There was a pile of topsoil beside the digger - so they may become lawn or gardens.

Alan.

The ground cover is mostly sand. I went to look twice and the door to the indoor quarters was shut all day, so if the dik-dik have moved they are being kept inside at the moment.

Do you guys think that maybe the old otter and oakfield aviaries area may be used for the future african wild dog exhibit?

It'll be nice looking at the gembok with dik-dik's in the background and it'll be interesting seeing if the gemsbok react to the Dik-diks............Also is there a story behind the name dik diks as when i took my friends to the zoo and i mentioned the name dik dik they all started to laugh, i do suppose it's kind of a rude name!

Hasn't it being revealed that the Hunting Dog enclosure will more-than-likely be within the West Zoo anyway?

Yes, when I emailed the Zoo I got a reply from Tim saying they were looking at an enclosure in the West Zoo. I have a feeling it will be near the Rhinos and Tsavo Aviary. It seems that this area will soon be an African Zone (With the Waterfowl/Pelican aviary eventually becoming an African Wetlands Aviary)

Can you see through walls then? As you will not beable to see them in the background while watching the gemsbok.
