In spite of [ame="http://www.flickr.com/photos/toni_uni/3815168192/in/set-72157610089606284/"]Thailand's "beast of burden act" versus (?) the begging street elephants on Flickr - Photo Sharing![/ame] for almost a decade this shameful abuse continues combined with the accidents to be expected like: above mentioned, deaths and injured by car-hits, electrocution, you name it.
