Zoo Expansion

Have heard that a UK zoo is expanding and has been told they need an Environmental Impact Assessment! Does anyone know if this is true and if so, what they are building?
The only expansions I have heard of are Edinburgh, Bristol and Chester but I thought they all had planning.

It may well be Chester - they are planning to expand into what I understand is Green Belt land and definitely don't yet have planning permission - they're applying for it in the coming months.

Cheers, any idea what they animals they are planning to have? Would be great to see a good herd of Bongo :).

Also forgot about BIOTA in London - although am not sure this is an expansion or something completely different.

its somthing completely different, and bristol arn't expanding, they are openin a new zoo

Pretty common practice with expansion's or any new building work.

Here are a few threads that will be of interest about Chester's plans.

Really that's changed since I was last working at a zoo. Are collections now being classed as theme parks then?

Thanks for the threads - very interesting :) Looks like I am going to have to have several road trips over the next decade or so :D.

not a thing, but we all know bristol arn't expanding, i brought up the poss, but we confermed it not to be

As far as I've heard Biota has been shelved for the time being, probably funds related. its possible in the near future though.

anyone know how chester plan to fund the £200 million + plans??

Zoogiraffe, may or may not beable to tell you more. However from what I have read some of the money will becoming from grants (some of which may have already been granted).

Even i don`t know that much apart from the zoo has more than enough to make a start on the project,as for where the money is coming from alot is from Grants and some from the zoo its self, the rest will be from other sources.

Hopefully they won't need to go down the track of land sales, we across the border have had our fingers burnt with that option:mad:

i would be interested to see the level of grants they have received and which bodies have put the money forward.....if you want to build a dome or a museum then the lottery will throw money at you but most zoos struggle to find large amounts of grants

Thats not an option the one thing they don`t need to do is sell any land, lease it for a profit maybe but not sell it.
