Edinburgh Zoo Recent Visit

I remember the report in IZN, they had written permission from Whipsnade and Dvur Kralove to obtain some of their rhino, but the EEP committee turned them down

You could say the same about a few of the animals there

Indeed, I think you could. The hippos seemed the most obvious thing to me but the yards and indoor housing for many of the other species are pretty grim too. I'm a bit surprised to hear Whipsnade were prepared to transfer Indian rhinos there but it hasn't happened.:)

Was at the zoo today and the african hunting dogs exhibit was closed off, could there be puppies?

A nice thought, but not necessarily that, maybe the animal is ill or something, or maybe theres something wrong with the walkway like with the overhang at the big cats.

With all the rain, i wouldn't be surprised if it was a public safety thing. Maybe its flooded!

It was closed on Saturday as well. No young that I'm aware of. Possible arrival of new male (part of a swap?) and time to settle in!

there is 1.1 of the hunting dogs speaking to a keeper a few months back i was told that the male would be leaving and swapped for a new male maybe this is whats happening around that area

Was at the zoo recently and was saddened to hear that Henry the pudu across from the scottish wild cats had died and also the new male Nelson that was paired with one of Henry's offspring in the old pudu house has also died and a white lipped deer has been lost to and another is not very well. As for the hunting dogs i am hearing the female has had ovary problems and is unable to breed .
