Just a note for those from Wales or with Sky tv on channel 972 BBC Wales, is showing a new documentary series following the novice zoo owner Anna Ryder Richardson and her family running the 52 acre park in Tenby.
Its starts tomorrow (Wednesday Sept 9) at 8.00pm on BBC Wales, and i'm sure will be on the BBC iplayer at some point.

BBC - BBC One Programmes - Wild Welsh Zoo

Anna Ryder Richardson was on Radio Wales this morning promoting the new TV series . She said that Steve the siamang has been moved from the horrible old cage but has yet to be released on his new island , by this I assume he is still in the house on the island .
She was on her way to Woburn for ' rhino training ' with her Head Keeper , seems like the rhinos are not yet there . She said getting anything done takes forever .

I caught the last 10 minutes of the programme (watching Scotland nosedive again), which focused on the new accomodation for the siamang, and the development of an island enclosure in a wooded setting, and it looked really impressive, a female has been located in Ireland, as a potential mate for the lonely siamang.

Any news on source and number (whites I presume for a safari park style enviro)?

What? That's just confusing the public and a potential hazard to lemurs!

I was watching the football last night so set my recorder for the programme . Unfortunately we are in the middle of the Digital Switchover here in Wales and the programme did not record - had to then re-tune the recorder for chamned programme settings .

Doubt if they would mix siamang with lemurs - was that mentioned on the programme ?

Not explicitly, it's possible that more than one island is being created. Maybe the Ring-tailed lemurs are creating problems in the mixed group and are being removed from the walkthrough.

It did say that the new siamang island will also be home to a group of ringtails. I am hoping there will be two islands. I just do not see the point in mixing them!

I just watched it, it said this new island complex will house the gibbons and the lemurs, implying there will be more than one island.

I disagree with you some what, watching the show did not clarify the point at all.

There seemed to be only one island being built, however said that it is one fantastic island exhibit big lots of trees. I hope they cut back some of the trees around the island (on or around the outside of it) as this could see and escape attempt be fruitful.

Other than that I think they have done a good job.
