Hi, i live in the UK and my dream is to work with giant pandas. I have a degree in zoology and have had some work expereince with giant pandas but am now finding it difficult to find out how i can go about working with them. Being in the UK where there are no pandas makes it difficult to find people who can give me advice. I cant apply for jobs in US because i do not live there even though i would move there if it would get me career i want. The only option is to volunteer which is fine for now but it seems i can only volunteer in China again as i have asked pretty much every zoo that has pandas and am not having much luck with replies. Help!!

Why is she? This is a forum about zoos and animals, a thing relating to her post!
I can't help you sorry, but maybe apply at Edinburgh as they're planning on getting them? Or, work somewhere with bears, get experience and then get a job in a zoo that has pandas lol.

It really is a case of joining the queue as your not alone in wanting to work with pandas, you have done everything right so far, gaining relative experience and knowledge and keep plugging away at the collections that keep pandas (and those that are hoping to!)

Good Luck

i keep lookin at edinburgh site, but so far nothing, they said to keep checking so thats what im doing. I have just yesterday a 3 month internship to work with bears and lions in america. just need money! have to get alot more work expereince before i can get a job because noone will take anyone these days usually with just a college degree and a little amount of work expereince. As much as i would love to go back to China it would be nice to volunteer working with pandas in another country. It is just hard for someone in the UK to access that kind of information.

just wish people would hire you because you have knowledge and most importantly the passion, if they could see my passion i know i would be hired on the spot! haha working with pandas is my dream job and i want it for life. Its a damn pain living in the UK. if i had lots of money i would biuld my own reserve here and have pandas although naturally they belong in the wild although its not to safe anymore.

I think you betters change your ambition to work with some less boring animals. We had them for a year, but they are boring things. No fun at all. ;-)

Hi Sarah,

it seems i can only volunteer in China again as i have asked pretty much every zoo that has pandas and am not having much luck with replies.

Have you been at Ya'an? For how long?

I've posted my answer on volunteering at the Zoo of Vienna in the other thread. HTH
