Port Lympne Wild Animal Park Brown Hyena Pups

Hi All,
Ive just found out that Port Lympne is now home to a litter of Brown Hyena Pups! - And it also says the first Uk Birth.
This is great news for a species having just arrived at the Park and is hopefully going to be a trend for the future,
Unfortunately this is all i know but i thought it should be shared, :)

This is excellent news! Look forward to more info as and when.

(who else reckons that this would have been on page 5 by now if it was an ape birth? ;) This is far more exciting than another ape!)
 
I came with the news about two weeks ago but nobody bothered to notice.

I am now really gutted, as we were originally planning to go to Kent in 2 weeks time, but it's been put on hold till next year!:(
Would love to have seen the pups.
If the parents both came from Prague, are they related?
 
The male MATES was born in April 1999 at Prague to a wild-caught pair BURR and BARBIE and was mother-reared. The female (name?) is a wild-caught animal and was bought from a animal dealer and imported in 2008 from South Africa to Prague zoo.

I just still can´t believe Prague send it´s most promising pair to UK after all the time and money spent to build two new enclosures and to import fresh blood from Africa. :confused:

That's interesting - odd, as you say, to send away such a valuable pair of animals. Still, at least the move hasn't put them off breeding!
 
One thing wasn't mentioned yet. There is an agreement that if there is a female cub in the litter, it will go to Prague. So is there any?
 
Thee pups were born 20.06.2009 - as of 25/8 the sexes hadn't been confirmed.
