Hey folks - just wondering if anyone knows when the next census for ARAZPA collections will be published?

ARAZPA censuses are annual, and are meant to be a snap shot of the 31st December. But just as important is the other part, the plan. So it is "census & plan" you are looking for. Usually the process is completed by February.

They are no longer "published" as such, the information is now available on the ARAZPA web site. Members update the data on the web, and it may eventually be that the C&P will be continually updated. I believe you may still be able to buy a printed copy from ARAZPA, not sure about that, but you could enquire with the office.

Thanks Michael.

Now I'm slightly confused. The latest census and plan that I read was earlier this year, but was as at the end of 2007. Does anyone have the end of 2008 version that they might send to me?

Yes 2008 was the first year a book was not published and distributed widely. We just refer to the Web. I think you would need to approach ARAZPA if you want a copy, and I'm not sure about the rules for non-members.

Hmm. I was an individual member of ARAZPA earlier in the year, but didn't renew it (at least for now) because I'm currently in a keep-living-costs-down-wherever-possible period.

What I referred to most (and have since lost due to a computer crash) was a series of PDFs that were broken up into order (Mammalia, Aves, Reptilia, Amphibia, the two major orders of fish and then 'Invertebrates' as a whole), and listed both current and intended holdings of each species.

This, I presume, is the census and plan? Because despite joining in March/April (I can't remember exactly when) the latest edition available on the website was as at the end of 2007.

Yes you are right - they did send out PDFs, and these replaced the bound volumes. The publication date does elude me, maybe I was being optimistic in saying Feb. But I do know they do try and get it all done before conference, in the old days when a physical document was produced it was sometimes distributed at the conference. So the 2007 C&P would have been distributed early 2008, and the 2008 C&P early 2009.

In addition we refer to a section on the website, which has the most recent updates from each institution for each species. Not sure how readily available that is, as it is the section where we change our listings. So maybe it is only available to a nominated representative of each institutional member.

Where on the website is this and can a non memeber access the 2007 census and plan?

In the members only section. It may be restricted even more than that - to the records officer of each institution.

You would want the 2008 C&P and you would have to approach the ARAZPA office, I don't know if they would provide it to you, and there would certainly be a charge.
