Chester Zoo Zoo Visit 20th Sept

Were planning on visiting the zoo on Sunday is there anything anybody would like me to try an find out? take pic off?
 
Please can you ask what is happening with the female bear? She was due to arrive in August and ISIS still shows Chester holding 1:0. Cheers :)

Got the feeling any asking this question may get fobbed off. Unless they have a good relationship with someone at the zoo.

Could you ask when they are likely to receive more purebred female giraffe's?

New Giraffe's are coming early 2010 I believe. :)
 
I was also told pure Rothschild's giraffes will be coming early in 2010. I think it's just for logistical reasons.

To the TAG and the studbook but not necessarily to the public. I'm sure we'll find out eventually but I'm not sure the zoo will ever just tell anyone who asks.

It will show up somewhere sooner or later (asian elephant.net?). However I would be surprised if Chester suppress the information deliberately- if he died from the Herpes Virus in particular it is certainly no reflection on their management and it would be good to know for sure. Having said that ZSL made no official announcement about the cause of their deaths (but didn't publicise them initially either).
 
Artis Zoo (Amsterdam) just published that their lone female spectacled bear Lodja will be moved to Chester soon. I guess that already answers one pressing question. It`s strange because Lodja had only just recently been moved to Artis to live in the old polar bear grotto, together with coatis. I hope they won`t bring in a new bear, the enclosure is just too small.
 
Thanks for that Yassa. :) It's a coincidence that she has the same name as Chester's previous female. I hope that this time things will turn out better and Chester will finally have some bear cubs in the near future. :)

This is good news, hopefully the jink on chesters bears is over.
 
Ups, I think I got confused, Lodja is indeed the name of the old Chester female, the new one is called Franka. Sorry for that.

Maybe the cause of death will be revealed to Adopter's at the next Adopter's Day on October 3rd. Unfortunately I'm not going to Chester on that day, otherwise I would try to find out.

I was watching animal road trip from whipsnade a few weeks ago and i'm pretty sure one of the keepers confirmed their elephants both died of a 'virus' - i think he may have even said it was the herpes virus..so looks like they are not hiding this information! He went on to say they are still looking to breed from the existing group too. Anyone else see this?

Yes I did, but I think what Pertinax means is that there was no official news story about from Whipsnade.
 
Sorry everyone for not getting back in touch have been unwell an was unable to go last Sunday, but will hopefully be going this sunday. I will try my best to find out as much info as possible and Rob I have some pics of the Dik Diks on my computer at home and will upload them as soon as possible.
On a bit of a side not does anybody know where the non pure rothschilds will be going to? has this been decided yet?

As far as am aware, they may be going to two different collection. But am not aware of where these two are or which giraffe are going together.
