Cleveland Metroparks Zoo Elephants arrive in Columbus

Well, at least until Omaha opens it's elephant exhibit.

And when will that happen? Probably not for at least another decade. As of right now that's just one of their unrealistic dreams. A good elephant exhibit doesn't usually get done too quick. Ours in Cleveland will take a total of 33 months, two months longer than the Congo Gorilla Forest. I read an article that said Columbus will have a 70 acre savanna open by 2008. That was from 1999. Now look, its 2009 and the savanna will be opening at the earliest in 2015.

I think I still rank Columbus Zoo's elephant exhibit higher but that is due to its immense size and the fact that they have a pretty good breeding program

Columbus' exhibit is less than 2 acres if you want to get technical, and although they have a great breeding program the exhibit is not than innovative. I love their exhibit, but I think Cleveland's will turn out better. It will have trees, something Columbus' lacks. We will also have a great visitor experience with a strong conservation message, and a themed African village.

Very good point Black Rhino, as the elephants do not use the entire building

I remember hearing though that the one exhibit alone is around two acres though so there entire area is probably just short of 3-4

Very good point also regarding the tree's, although they are though to get into elephant habitats
