Chester Zoo Questions/comments about Chester Zoo

I love chemistry and Biology, but hate physics. Do you teach at Manchester Grammar, because our old head of science moved to teach there. She was brill!

Sometimes the things you overhear people say in zoos beggars belief - I find myself biting my tongue!

On Saturday I was standing by the Spectacled Bear enclosure at Chester zoo and some visitors were angrily complaining that the speckled bears wern't speckled at all. Later some other visitors noticed one of the coatis and were convinced they had seen a bear cub.

People say that the coatis are baby bears, gibbons are baby orangs, and that the mindanao bleeding hearts are ugly BoPs

Also tapirs are anteaters
Can beat all of those heard a parent at Chester telling their son to look at the Hippos just a pity they were looking at a Blackbuck.

The best one I heard was a young couple quietly discussing why Diana monkeys had their name- it was obvious... from Princess Diana.

My best, from Chester earlier this year (from a father who was trying too hard ) "Where do Komodo dragons come from?"
I kept a very straight face, smiled sweetly and said "Komodo"
He thought for a moment . . . "Ah yes, Japan!"

The plans for the new Butterfly House also show the location for Chester's amphibian ark. It will be on the farmland across from the zoo, and thus not accessible to the public. I think this is a shame, on one hand the zoo is supposed to be educational, and on the other hand all these weird and wonderful frog species will never be seen by visitors.

This trend of keeping the more unusual animals off show is beginning to worry me. Surely a few specimens could be made availabe for on show enclosures, and still leave an adequate number for beeding purposes.

"Zoomania took one last look at the red vented cockatoos and waved. Never again would he hear the loud squawks made by the Blue Eyed cockatoos, or look at the dainty bodies of the red and Blue lories. He knew it was for the best, but could not control his emotions. The tears spurted from his eyes like water from the clouds t
last summer (wasn't it wet!). There was nothing left to cry, so he left the zoo.

Every day he still goes up to the site of the old parrot house and looks at where all his dreams were finally destroyed...

But then, thanks to zoogiraffe, a ray of hope! He may be able to see the parrots once again."

I miss the parrots too zoomania.....
