Chester Zoo Lechwe

Does Chester have a new male Lechwe? If so, where did he come from?

Yes they do, and is now in with the female Red Lechwe. Again for location I do not know, but am sure one of the other members will be able to tell you.

EDIT: I also thought Chester held Red Lechwe, but ISIS lists them are Kafue Flats Lechwe. Is this just a problem with "Common" names? Or an ISIS mistake?

Chester have always kept Kafue Flats Lechwe but for a time they were labelled as Red at the zoo but this has got to be over 10 years ago since they were labelled as Red Lechwe.

As zoogiraffe says, Chester's lechwe are Kafue Flats Lechwe, Kobus leche kafuensis. The name 'Red Lechwe' can be applied to the species Kobus leche (to distinguish from the Nile Lechwe K. megaceros) or (more correctly, I suspect) to the type subspecies Kobus leche leche.

Even after the signs on the exhibit were changed to Kafue Flats Lechwe, the map tended to refer to Red Lechwe.
