Dudley Zoological Gardens Dudley Zoo

I'm only quoting what it say's on the plaques at the side of the enclosure but I think that the mongoose are actually one breed of animal as I have heard people actually call them both yellow and red but some people call them red meerkats
As for the flying rats I have no info as yet as haven't been back since noticing the plaque on the side of the elephant housing but will try and find out asap

Right from that i would say that you are talking about Yellow Mongoose,as most none zoo nerds think they are Meerkats.

I was just trying to say that the red and yellow mongoose now occupy the enclosure
as the meerkats have moved into the monkey tails building that was once the tropical house, also they should be having some flying rats in the old elephant house building very shortly as the construction of the enclosure looks to be very near complete.
Will be going up one day next week all being well will have some photo's of these if they are now in the enclosure.
If there are any photo's anyone would like me to take then please let me know.

its a very well hidden malagasy jumping rat!!

Beyond the chimps outdoor enclosure there is another enclosure hidden in the now over grown wood
Do any of you out there now what used to be kept in this enclosure I'm not too sure if it's one or two enclosures I know the miniture railway used to run past them.

is it a small wooden enclosure with a netting over?

that used to hold prarie dogs, and currently holds rabbits and guinea pigs, that one?

Evil Kittie unfortunatly no it's not that one and Bongorob they were not in use in 1972 as I was told they stopped using them in the early 60's I can remember a guide book at an auction showing the miniture Railway running alot further the the 1972 guide book showing

Adrian I too remember this area, and wonder why it's not part of the zoo anymore?
Bongobob seems to have come up with the answer to what was in there in the early 70's, I'm sure this area would still have been in use at that time.

Sun Bears were kept there as late as the 1960's.

To be honest that was to be expected with the cut backs and the organisation being made redundent in 2012.
This goes to show that nowadays you cannot depend on funding until you actually have the money in the bank.
I hope the zoo finds the money in the future.

Yet Dudley council have waisted millions on the infamous mosque nobody wants.
