Zoos and Sat Navs

I was wondering how many of us use Sat Nav to locate zoos? I was on a German zoo tour with author Tim Brown about a year ago and we found it a great help – for finding the zoos AND hotels. I reckon we saved a lot of valuable time which, of course, was then used for looking around some great zoos. I believe it's the main reason why a guide for Sat Navs was included in his new Guide to British Zoos & Aquariums.

Aren't some zoos now providing mobile phone apps so that those with GPS enabled handsets can navigate in the zoo itself more easily (and include location relevant information as well)? I think that is a good idea.

I think sat navs are for *******! They are a retrograde step, negating yet another domestic skill - bringing the human race another step closer to complete uselessness. Not only that, they take all the fun out of road trips.

Nice subtle plug by the way!

Hmm, not sure whether that's an appropiate title to use given they're so widespread now. IMO, they make the journey more fun, ours seems to have a mind of it's own. We only use it if we're going somewhere for the first time anyway, and it doesn't nessacarily mean our brains will be going 'at the end of the corridor, turn left into the living room, and after 4 yards you have reached the toilet' next year.

I would have aversions if they were powered by ATMOS on the other hand... (Doctor Who reference, sorry)

Too right!

Preach on Brother Paradoxurus!

Call me a Ludite or King Canute, but I concur. Personally I replace the S with a TW. :):)

Basically, I don't want my ability to read maps and innate sense of direction to atrophy.

As somebody that has a sat nav,but never realy use it because it believes the best way to get Twycross for me is using the M6 Toll,I agree that people are losing their natural sense of direction.I have also had some interesting journeys when I have been in other peoples cars when they have been using their satnavs, hence me on the whole prefering to use my wits and a map to get me from A to B.

Of course it was Robv who brought the Satnav to Germany and bloody brilliant it was i must say,the new zoofuhrer Tomtom will of course guide you around most German zoos without having to think where to walk next and will translate to english as well.

I think they're good in some respects, I typed in "zoo" on mine and ended up with directions to Berlin Tierpark :D
But then when I got home from Chester I ended up getting sent through country lanes instead of the motorway, and I because mine was cheap it doesn't have an alternative route function so I was stuck going the way I didn't want to. Maybe less miles but that doesn't make it quicker or easier to drive!
