Spent the morning at the zoo yesterday.

The headline news is the disappearance of the Little Blue Penguin - no sign of the bird, and the label has been removed. Not looking good.

Gorillas, gibbons, monkeys and flamingos all confined to quarters due to ice!

Dwarf Mongoose exhibit was empty for maintenance.

A new Amphibian Ark is being built between the exit of the Twilight World and the Reptile House; it looks as if this will have large viewing windows so at least some of the stock should be on show.

Reptile House now open again since being rewired - stock is basically unchanged but the place has had a lick of paint and a general tidy-up.

The Wandering Whistling Duck (one of my favourites from the old Wallace Aviary and missing from the Forest of Birds) eventually turned up in one of the old aviaries behind the old Monkey Temple.

Finally and oddly, didn't see any tapirs.

They're in (or are normally in!) the very first exhibit on the right as you enter the nocturnal house.

That sucks about the little blue penguin :(
Thanks for the updates though.

ooops! I dont remember them at all. All this time i've been thinking sand cats were the first exhibit.

You're not too far wrong - Sand Cats are the second exhibit on the right. ;)

Somehow, I didn't think it'd be long before that happened. Tis a bit of a bummer though. :(

That area is going to be the site of a great big tropical house; perhaps they're clearing out Zona Brazil starting with the tapirs. Alternativley, they could've just been hiding. :)

The little penguin moved to Wuppertal. They know have the last 2 little penguins in Europe(2,0)

Thanks lintworm! But that begs the question, what happened to the rest of Cologne's group? They had a lot more than one in May.

I don't think that's quite true, that tropical house has been planned but I've heard it won't be going where Zona Brazil is as that's apparently going to be used for something else.

@Maguari: 1,2 penguins died short after their arrival in Wuppertal, probably because of the transport.

Yikes. Not good.

Thanks again!

When i was at Bristol a few months back, the dwarf mongoose house in the nocturnal house held a yellow armadillo.

Ah. Armadillos are in two exhibits at the moment; in the bottom of the sloth/douroucouli exhibit and the bottom of the howler exhibit (the agoutis, or at least their label, as I didn't see any, have moved to Zona Brazil).

Maguari- Did you see the Okapi calf? I've heard no mention of it since around the time it was born. Is it okay?

Have replied to you in the gallery Pertinax but for anyone who's just following this thread :) :

I only saw the male in the public house. Would guess mother and baby are in the off-show stabling.

I'm not sure if this is new news, but the Bristol website says that 17 rhinoceros iguanas have been hatched and it has a couple of photos. Good show!
