It has been announced on the zoo website under the news page that it is to be getting some hyena`s. :)

"We feel that our current lion enclosure is no longer suitable for big cats and instead will be redeveloped for striped hyaena’s during the winter months. This will be a new species for the zoo with animals arriving in the spring."

thanks
josh.

Huh...
That's brilliant and very surprising :D

Also, I wonder where will they be sourced from?

Didn't one of the Aspinall parks have a litter not so long ago? Maybe they are moving up from there?

That was Brown Hyaena pups at Port Lympne. I don't know if I've heard of striped Hyaenas being bred in Britain before.

Africa alive at Kessingland has certainly had at least one successful litter.

That's cool, I wonder where Twycross will get them from?

Another species will be using the house before the Striped Hyenas arrive!

I suppose you can't tell us.

if they are talking spring this year (?) then it doesn't leave much time for another species...unless its a suprlus species already found in the zoo, in need for some temporary accomodation.

perhaps they are getting them from colchester, seeing as they have to rotate enclosure ? (only my guess though)

and has anyone got a picture of the lion enclosure? as i can't seem to find one in the gallery :)

I doubt it! (hope not too being a colchester regular :D)
The reason that I doubt it is because the one spotted Hyena that they rotate the enclosure with is fairly old and will probably be around for 2-3 years max. The colchester Female was pregnant earlier in the year however lost the cubs :(

Well the species that`s going to use the enclosure before the Hyenas is not rocket science,if you think what species is arriving to go into a new exhibit opening this year.
I will say the Hyenas are not coming from the U.K.

Ah but did you take into account that there are some in private hands? ;)

Regardless of what might or might not be going in there, i hope they first of all make the public viewing better!
