Just thought id ask what people thought of this place, as there doesent seem to be any threads for it.

Eh, it's alright. Like a lot of British aquaria, it sometimes seems to think it's better than it is! :D

That said, there's not too much specifically wrong with it. It's got a big shark tank, otters, a rainforest bit with a few herps. Not sure if it's still there but there used to be a huge Arapaima. And it's very close to Chester Zoo - I would suggest going to the aquarium first thing and then you can use up the rest of the day at the zoo!

I would say though, that if your interest is in seeing unusual fish species, you may see almost as many at the zoo as the aquarium!

I was there last monday (monday 4th January), it hasn't changed one bit since i visited around three years ago! I noticed in the "mangrove" section there were some american alligators that i didn't expect for some reason! They had two species of otter, the canadian and asian short clawed. Children and parents alike were splashing wildely and pulling the ray's towards them in the "Ray Cove" when the fish swim past regardless that a member was standing right there! All in all, i love blue planet aquarium and always have! but it is very much like other aquariums and there i would agree that Chester Zoo has way more interesting species in their aquarium.

Are you 100% sure that they are American Alligators as they have had 4 Morelets Crocs arrive last year not heard of any Amercian Alligators arriving.

My cousin was desparate to touch the rays who were in the tank on the other side of the room! So i only had a glance of them and assumed they were american alligators due to the fact they were in an american style mangrove exhibit! But your probably right!
