I just saw an ad for "Toco Toucans $800 each available in Sydney"!
Steve Robinson, How many can I put you down for?![]()
hi every one
i have heard rummors of lagre bird breeders holding toucans in the northern teritory.
would I be right in assuming the original founder stock in Australia is just a few birds then?
shame that Blue Headed Macaws are also going to have to go underground.
well two ain't that bad.
you know i'm going to buy some off you one day.
Anything you want is out there if your willing to pay. Toucans, Birds of Paradise, a Pair of Palms! Its a shame that Blue Headed Macaws are also going to have to go underground.
don't overestimate the intelligence level of these people phoenix. In NZ illegal green iguanas were advertised for sale on auction site trademe. The seller got done by MaF (and the buyers lost both iguanas and their money, as it's a case of buyer beware)phoenix said:petlink, by the way is absolutely full of scammers and i figure anyone with illegal pets would know they are illegal and therefore would have to be beyond dumb to actually advertise their sale (let alone for cheaper than a pair of pekin robins!)
that said, some months ago i saw oriental fire bellied toads advertised in sydney. instantly dismissing it as a scam, i was surprised to see about three days later a news report of sydney man busted with the species!
hey ben - are you for real? i would have instantly dismissed any rumours of toucans based on the fact that they are so damn conspicuous.
I am fully serious. working in a major bird dealers you see and hear many different thingsand now in a zoo you'd be suprised hearing what visitors have (all the kids that say that death adders look like corn snakes)
Back to birds, my father and i recently finished building a reasonably large aviary and i'm buying double-barred, star, painted and gouldian finches off a friend of a friend and i'm wondering what is the best diet to feed them on. I've heard of millet, kale and endive but none are available anywhere near where i live.
Phoenix mentioned lebanese cucumber, is there anything else anyone would recommend?

All those finches are wonderful birds, we get double bars breeding in our garden![]()
Wow. They would be one of my favourite bird species.
Red-browed finches often feed on our little plot but breed in a nearby nature reserve.
