Edinburgh Zoo Births in 2010

Strictly a 2009 hatching, but a 1.0 thick billed parrot has successfully fledged.
Another Moholi galago has been born
6 snowy-crowned robin chats and 3 chestnut-backed thrushes have been fledged in their off show accomodation

Guinea Baboon born on 12th January to 4 year old 'Uma' - this is the 4th birth since August and the troop is now 37 individuals

1:0 Purple Faced Langur was born on 16/12/09 he has been named Kandy

I see many Baboon trops (especially Hamadrynas) getting too much births ... there're already many Baboons in conservations center and many being put to sleep for no space for them.

While I'm not against it, shouldnt Zoo keeping Baboons try birth controll?

Again, not strictly a 2010 birth, but a single European otter, was born to the pair currently in the duck ponds enclosure, got this from the zoos facebook page.

Edinburgh Zoo The young European otter (Lutra lutra lutra) born to the pair in the duck ponds in late 2009 has made an apperance this week! If you are lucky, you will see the 3 of them. You can read more about our European otters here:

If you are around Living Links, look out for the new capuchin, born on Friday. The ring tail lemurs have also had a set of twins and a single baby. Also if you are round by the swamp wallabies look out for a joey occasionally putting its head out the pouch!

And a second Gelada birth today! If this is the start of the season, look out for a flood of the official announcements in the coming months. It looks like RZSS are getting things so right for the animals (and getting thr right animals as well!) Kind of suggests that any problems they have with breeding animals aren't down to anything they are doing wrong!

I have also been told of a pudu birth and a tapir birth as well this week! I'm sure there was another one that I've forgotten about bu it seems births are coming thick and fast at the moment! RZSS are being successful again, let's hope it's another good year for them/us!

Just tremembered, on of the Heck cattle had a calf!

Gibbon birth 2nd May.
