Planned Exhibits for 2010 - 2011

What about the new Asian elephant exhibit at the Washington DC zoo that should be opening in the near future, right?

I'm more excited for the Pachyderm Forest to open of course. I'm also excited to see Giants of the Savanna, and MOLA.

Also, the LA Zoo's Reptile House and Rainforest of the Americas will be completed in 2011 instead of 2010 as I mentioned before. The delay was caused due to the "Elephant wars" that we recently had.

MOLA?

I'd be a lot more excited about the LA exhibits if I still lived out there. Oh well, I hope these new exhibits make LA a good zoo. I'll still come out and visit now and then, so I can check it out at some point.

I'm excited for MOLA because from the plans and reptile species it looks like it's going to be one of the best reptile houses in North America.

Of course I'm excited about all the new LA exhibits, but both the Reptile House and Rainforest of the Americas are more than a year away from opening. We all saw how impressive the China exhibit came out, so I can't wait to see what the Portico Group came up with for the rest of the exhibits.

I had actually forgotten what MOLA was. I wasn't questioning why you were excited about it.

These future exhibits will be the real test for the Portico Group and the LA Zoo since they're much bigger and more important to how the zoo will be perceived imo.

Concerning the reptile exhibit at Fort Worth, I'm very interested to see how it turns out. Reptiles usually get the shaft at museums and for the most part are not exciting elements of zoos other than a few of the larger and/or unusual species. So if they can do something truly exciting with reptiles, that would be great.

Oh, I thought you were questioning me, LOL. For other people that don't know, MOLA stands for Museum of Living Art, which will be the new reptile house at the Fort Worth Zoo.

I'm exited for the new LA exhibits too. The LA zoo offers a good collection that isn't spoiled when San Diego is where I live. The new elephant exhibit already looks better than EO when it isn't even fully completed. I'll probably go once Pachyderm Forest is complete because I can't wait to go after waiting so long for it due to the "Elephant Wars." We should have a Zoo Chat meet up for Southern Californianers there this summer once its complete. It'll give me a reason to go up and breathe some of that LA photochemical smog.

Pachyderm Forest is actually scheduled to open sometime in November, and the Reptile and Insect Center in February of 2011.

But what debuts even sooner in L.A. is the California Science Center's new wing, on March 25. This first phase opening should include the walk-through Kelp Forest, a 188,000 gallon aquarium exhibit. This exhibit will feature ocean species living off our coastal waters like sharks, rays, garibaldis and moray eels. The next phase, which will include an Asian rain forest, should fit within the same 2010/2011 time frame. It will house an array of Asian plant and wildlife.

And doesn't the new Denver elephant habitat open during this period as well?

Around here I'm excited to see obviously Giants of the Savanna. Also nearby is MOLA (opens in 1 weeks), Africa Live 2 in San Antonio (opens today and might go next week), African Forest in Houston (opens later this year), and OKC's elephant expansion (opens either later this year or early next).

Quite the exciting time for zoos in Texas! Look forward to your reviews and pics.

They already have the okapi and shipped out the cape buffalo. I will be up there next week.

I went to the zoo today and I saw the zoo already replanted the exhibit with more foliage and grass, I will upload the picture of my pics by tomorrow(including the penguins)

The Jacksonville zoo has schedule the okapis to be on exhibit starting on Thursday. You are lucky, I wanted to see the okapi, oh well, I can wait a month.
