Wow,
This surprises me as they are very territorial animals. although being that there are no females around will probably make it easier for introductions. They are generally live in monogamous pairs with young offspring.

There have been plans to trial a 'bachelor group' approach for a while. I guess Cairns is it. Hopefully it works out.
 
That is about right. In males the father tends to kick the young out when they ca make a decent effort at calling. females I believe are the same with their daughters. usually around 18 months to 2 years, sometimes later.

Mmm Ok I thought they would be like other gibbon species wherethey stay with the parents fr longer.
 
Hopefully this is the beginning of some more trades between the two institutions e.g. Pygmy Hippo ;)
