Edinburgh Zoo Few Questions?

Just thought, in some zoos where gorillas have been introduced photographs have been used. Could the video technology used during the course of the Chimpcam project be implemented as a means of the introduction process for the two groups.

I'd question whether Apes can really recognise each other from Photos, or from video/film/t.v etc. I've often wondered when they have Television for Gorillas etc how much, if anything, they recognise from what they see. We can't know.

I would think touch contact through dividing grilles will be the best way for the groups to get properly aquainted with each other..

I just thought it might be an idea as an additional thing to use. The technology is certainly in place. I'm sure the keepers have a whole range of ideas for the introductions and won't be ruling anything out!

Its says DNA tests show two of Edinburgh's males are Western Chimps- do we know which ones? (names, ages etc)

They are Ricky the oldest male (48yrs) and Louis (33yrs). It's unlikely that Ricky would ever mate as he's never shown any interest in the females.

Is Ricky the one that was originally a Seaman's pet?

Is Louis a breeding male?
